That's fantastic. Stave shells are great, you're going to have a kit with some real sonic presence, especially being oak. Love your aluminium work too.

I agree. Nice work so far. I am in awe of people with the talent to build ANYTHING, let alone a drum kit.
I'm totally impressed with your work! Can hardly wait to see the other drums. Keep us posted!

Very nice work indeed. Can't wait to see the finished kit. Let us see progress pictures.
Off course. I forgot the process is nice as well.
Here's the old solid oak table I took my wood from.
And the shells of the kit. 12x9, 16x16, 24x14.
This weekend I solved the last technical problems on the snare and played it. I didn't have time to get the tuning perfected, so I don't know the potential yet. As for now it sounds good (and loud), but the note is a bit too short to my ears. That may be due to the round over edges or to the fact that I didn't make a vent-hole. The shortness of the note may be a matter of being choked. I drilled a venthole now and will assemble the drum again and try it tomorrow in band-rehearsal. Maybe a thicker head will prevent choking as well (I have had good results with ambassador X on that matter)

Man those look awesome. Have an old oak kitchen table that my family has had for close to 40 years now. Always loved the way it looks. Those are going to be absolutely radiant when fully put together.

Oh man those shells look delicious. That's clearly going to be one gorgeous looking set when you're finished.

Wow! Beautiful work! I need to pick your brain for a second... How did you make the bass hoops? Are they stave construction (seriously impressive) or a steam bend? Are the re-rings made stave as well? So impressive. Can't wait to see the finished product!!
