From my point of view, the desirable vintage era of drums ended in the early 80s before boat anchor hardware and power toms. My desirability of old drums is relative to the era of popular music/culture associated with it.

The heyday of rock music was the 50s-70s. After that popular music became more homegenized, with some exceptions in the 80s and 90s.

With regard to the 25 year rule, I don't believe manufacturers will try to re-create the look of drums from the 80s and 90s. The used drum market (prices) would be a sign of that though.
