Nice. Yes, very early 60s. The strainer and lugs are gone by 64 best I have been able to discern. The strainer will work nicely, I just found I had one and rebuilt it by taking it apart and cutting a piece of dead drumhead and using it for a nylon type washer, It works well and keeps tension nicely. If you want to change it out for something more modern, I would love to have it.

This is a little of what I do with these old shells. Tape off the edges of the wrap and all the outside holes to keep lacquer from getting all over the wrap. Sand the interior of the shells smooth and lacquer them at least one coat. Make sure to get the edges smooth as well, and lacquer them as well. They will have a deep, resonant tone that will likely ring a bit until you mess with them a bit annd learn how to control it, but I can say two words...well one word...MoonGels. They work well to keep the overtones down. A really deep tone and not really a lot of range, but the bass drum is a cannon.
