they are far too smooth and pristinely lathed for K's. A's possibly, but I was thinking that since he was a Premier endorser----he might have been using Super Zyns, . He seems to have the whole brigade there. ----flatbased stands, right down to the snare stand, base mounted cymbal arm ---none of which, after the headbangers and roadies got through with drum hardware were officially considered good enough.------but we know better now and so did ,Kenny Clarke , then. It looks like he might have had the full Premier complement on for this shot.

Here are a few. I tried to get the overlap between the 2 plies to show up but I need better lighting and a higher resolution camera. These were done on a blackberry.........anyway,you can see the shell seam and it's extreme thinness.

Well. there isn't anything wrong----just that the shell is essentially a solid 2 layer without rerings. Isn't that odd for the time? All I have ever seen were ply with rerings. AND it is a metric shell 350mm but with the double mallet logo, which doesn't seem to have appeared until 1960 or later AND the rest of the kit similarily badged is metric too. I think they all came together.

Your drum should have re-rings, Do they look to have been removed ?

They were tacked together at the ends but glued to the shell. Something wrong !!

The lighting makes it look like Cedar, does it smell like Cedar ?

They didn`t have the oil heated ovens til the Drop kits, that`s when the rings dissappeared !! I believe the rings were put on with a jig after oven !!

Not so. My snare drum seems to be of identical construction. It is in inch size though (14).

I'm not sure how many plies the drum is, but 2-ply is possible. It definitely has never had any re-rings. On the 2nd picture above, the model number has been scribbled in ink.

The interior of my drum is as found. It is just dirty. The wood is European Beech and like Magnus' snare it never had any rerings. You can see from Magnus' pictures that the muffler construction is an older ,elaborate design with a throughrod. Mine is the newer design ,with the knob ,acting directly on a leaf spring muffler.
