I decided to bevel the plug to match and follow the seam. It'll look better that way I think. Ran out of time today but should be able to start knocking down the plugs tomorrow afternoon. Being the inside ply is mahogany I plan to stain the plugs to match the interior a little better. My son wanted to make 2 ply plugs maple/mahogany but he's been busy with his guitar building. And he didn't mention it till after these were glued in. LOL. Laughing H

Had some time this afternoon to start sanding the shell and repair plugs. Still some minor sanding and filler to go but about 80% there. I cut the seam area in best I could. I'm no wood worker but came out ok I think.

I've been talking with my son about a snare for this kit. And maybe making one from scratch. Well he bought me the Acme snare drum kit for Fathers Day!! 8' piece of maple 6" width by 1" thick. Nice grain on this wood and should be able to section it so the grain follows nicely. This one will take some time but have a pretty good plan for it. Gotta love it~!

Looking good, Glenn! The grain of the plugs flows pretty well with the shell.

As far as your new snare, I think you should get an Acme steamer and bend that thing around into a single-ply, solid shell snare. :D

Very nice job Glenn! Good work on plugging the holes. Great project - I'm enjoying the tread.

Nice job with the plug work! Might need to get an Acme anvil to hold down that maple plank while you are bending it!

Thanks guys! Yep I'm going to need a few more Acme things to get this snare done. Excited

For fun I was looking into steam bending different woods. Pretty simple and cheap to make a steam box. I saved one site that had a pretty good one. Also a few good ways to bend the wood with a steel band and clamps on you tube. Some guys muscle it around but one guy used a winch which was pretty cool idea. My son has the router and table for cutting the angled joint edges that go together and bearing edges. Plus a host of saws and sanders. No lathe.....yet~! I know this is a pretty skilled thing to do. But with some time and practice I think I can pull it off. I'm just crazy enough to try it.
