Ok todays project bass is drum spurs.........I got a set of clip on spurs from my buddy Lynn. These came with 1 original short spike. When I fit them to the drum the 1 spike was too short to get the right angle, support and hold the bass secure. So a longer leg was needed. I knew this going in when I got the clip on's from Lynn. Not a big deal. I went to the Home Depot and bought a 3' length of 1/4" dia rod and cut 2 lengths that would give me the support and adjustment needed. I then used 2 rubbber feet to finish them. The feet are actually rubber ******s from NAPA used on engines to block off extra hose ports on carbs, plastic T's and the likes. Seeing how they are gas,oil and heat resistant we'll see how they hold up to vibration and pressure. Hopefully well. I plan to get one of those dual foot spurs that go front and center on the hoop. This should give it a little extra support. Here's a couple pics........

Seeing how my search for the original floor tom legs mounts isn't going so well I decided to make my own. I have some pics of originals and took some measurements off the floor tom shell's witness marks. This gave me a pretty good idea to the size, shape and thickness they used. Some nice 1"x 1/8" wide flat bar stock from Home Depot, a torch, assorted hammers, anvil, vise, bench grinder and drill press and we'll have a go at it. Seems the original was 3/16" think which they did have so I might switch to that if the 1/8" is too flimsy. I think it'll be fine. I used to have a good friend with a full machine shop but with the economy in the crapper he closed up a few years ago. His shop would have made this a lot easier. I made a drawing and quick template out of aluminum for aprox size and fit. Looks good. Soon as we get some clear weather here this week I'll start them and show the progress. I still need to get some eye bolts and wingnuts to hold the legs in the brackets. I'll go to the HD again tonight and see what they have. The originals have a unique shape to them which i'll try to duplicate out of the eye bolts hopefully. We'll see how this goes. I plan to use later style angled legs so I made the bracket come out a little more to give a tad more room for the holes. Here's the drawing and aluminum template...........

Laughing H...N!PPLE$!!! I did the same thing for my late 50s 5/16" BD spurs, except NAPA called them vacuum caps. Everything is looking good, Glenn. Looking forward to the finished product!

Not much new to report. The 13" tom is up this week for hole repair and shell strip and stain. As this was a painted duco no wrap on this bad boy. So we'll use a white translucent stain with a slight tint to match the vintage WMP. Then some nice gloss nitro clear. I need to look for a nice W&A diamond plate or maybe just go with the Maxwell part. We'll see what I can find. I have the single flange RK hoops and some early BT lugs I need coming in soon. So that's cool.

Here's a "before" shot of the 13". I'll post more pic this week and it gets fixed.
