Over the last few days I got a pretty good jump on the home made clamshell strainer. I know there's not a lot of love for this one out there. But I feel it's a elegant and well thought out design..... I know some will disagree. The body's I think could have been a little more heavy duty. Once I figured out what did what and total adjustability it was pretty clear cut. I still need to tung oil the wood body and clean up a few things. So here's where we are today........

I need to again thank my son Dan. He was a big help making this and letting me use his shop. So alot of credit goes to him. I'd still be carving the body if I was on my own. Laughing H

The first shot shows the inside of the handle stud. I used a couple thumbscrews here to fine tune the tension. This allows some in/out movment here if I needed it. The body only moves a 1/8" in/out when the throw is on or off. So you need to have a good balance on your tensions. Of course there's the actual tension side as well. I put it about dead center adjustment wise so I can tighten or loosen the snare wire tension as desired. The snares fall off nicely when the throw is off with no buzz or rattle. Excellent response when the snares are on. Just right and I can tighten or loosen them for sound with the tension side knob.

Second and third shot just show front and side. I covered the sides of the bracket with WMP. This was the piece of wrap I test painted black in my painted wrap thread. It went to good use here...no waste!!

Last pic shows the bottom end. Note the darker wood block glued to the bottom. Yep I drilled the handle hole too far down and had to add a small block to extend the body a bit. It somehow ended up the perfect height. ;)

I added a early set of RK stick chopper hoops. Not correct I know but they look cool and fit the vibe I'm going for.

I used all parts I had around the house. So nothing trick or slick just a little thought and fab work here and there. So there you have it my home made clamshell throw side strainer!!

Glenn you remind me of me. I love to do stuff like this, your strainer looks great! Im really impressed with the fact you could not buy one so just went ahead and built one. Good work, Ill have a beer and celebrate with you,,,if its Okay with you.
