JazzMan…you are doing a fantastic job. That clean up is amazing. I had an identical Gretsch finish with a major paint removal challenge. I could never get it back to a workable state for reasons you'll see in the pic. But yours are going to be stunning. And you've got the matching snare! I have a soft spot for Aqua Satin Flame Round Badges and can't wait to see your completed project all set up. Great work.

mcdrummer- no the bass looks the same, the toms and snare have been cleaned, i have not had a chance to do the wrap cleaning on the bass- they all looked the same before i cleaned the other drums. pretty drastic change.

As for the Novus, it is pretty straight forward, #3 is for heavier scratches, so once I have used the scrubbing bubble approach, i apply the novus 3, use a shop rag and rub in several directions, apply with a circular approach, then rub vertically, then rub horizontally so as to penetrate all scratches/ crevices. Depending on which drum I will apply to a wider, or more narrow area, with the snare i could apply to half the drum, then wipe off. With the floor tom, due to the height, i applied only to an area about 6-8" wide, then wiped off. I try not to let the #3 dry completely, just a bit of haze. I then use a microfiber cloth to "buff" the remainder off, followed by a damp cloth wipe to remove any remaining excess. Once the entire drum has been completed with #3, I follow the exact approach of application for #2, although I let the #2 haze a little more, buff, wet cloth wipe and proceed. The #1 is a spray bottle where as 3 & 2 are what you'd expect a traditional automotive liquid polish to be. I spray the #1 directly on the wrap, holding the drum, somewhat awkwardly so as to avoid it running into the drum and onto the wood edge. Wipe with a microfiber cloth, then buff to a sheen.I finish the process with a spray application of Meguiars ultimate quik detailer, the same stuff I use on the car after waxing, and in place of wax on my matte paint motorcycle. It adds a nice level of shine and smoothness to the wraps.

No problem hardbat. I just finished cleaning up the wrap on the bass drum tonight. I started the novus by hand, and after about 5 minutes knew it was going to take forever. I switched gears and got out my Craftsman buffer/ polisher- put a new buffing pad on, and went to town. It was amazing how well it worked, went through #3, and #2, following the same approach I did by hand but with the buffer. There were a couple places of intense dirt/ discoloration on the top of the bass, the buffer took care of that no problem. Followed up with #1, and then the Meguiars quik detail- bass looks brand new. Pics up soon

I am getting down to the end now, I was able to peel the aqua satin wrap off the one bass hoop, and am looking to replace the wrap on the one missing it. The hoops need a light sanding and a fresh coat of black paint.

I am having some difficulty finding someone that sells wraps. Does anybody have a suggestion, or a company you have had success with in the past? I only need one bass hoop inlay's worth of wrap. Thanks!

Finally got everything finished. The last step was repainting the bass hoops and reattaching the wrap inlay on the hoops.

All in from start to finish:

Heads-

Fiberskyn3 on batter side for all drums

Remo Ambassador clear on resonant side except bass Weatherking white on bass front

Replacement front bass claws and T-rods (sourced from ebay)

Replacement tension rods for reso side on floor tom

Replacement floor tom reso side muffler

Replacement bass hoop inlays (one was missing)

Replacement floor tom rubber feet

Everything else was on the drums/ original.

4 step cleaning process on metal hardware, and 4 step cleaning/restoration on wraps, 2 step process on cymbals

I am still in the process of completing the Floating Action bass pedal.

I also purchased a second snare stand which I think I am going to use for the rack tom, rather than the factory bass drum mount.
