Hey Guys.

This is an early 70s Olympic by premier drum kit.

Can you help me identify the shell material on these drums ?

The brighter shot looks like birch. I think the re-rings are beech or maple.

A Premier guru will surely chime to confirm or correct me :)

I own an early 1970's Olympic by Premier and my interiors are mahogany with beech re-rings. The interior was unfinished so I applied four coats of natural colored paste wax and they sound great.

OleHickory, is your Olympic kit USA or UK badge?

My Olympic is a USA badge with birch shells.

Hey Ole and Eric.

The re-rings are beech.

The interiors look like mahogany to me but they must be unfinished because they look so pale... they don't look like the interiors of the premier elites.

I have seen similarly pale mahogany on Premier/Olympic/Beverley shells.

Pretty sure that's mahogany. Re-rings most certainly beech. That's the Premier standard.

I think you're right Ning, the wood grain does look like mahogany. The lighter/pale look is throwing me off :)

I have the US badges. I think they were marketed here by the Selmer Group but I am still researching this.

At first I thought it was Luan because of the light look - but Luan usually has vertical grain right ?
