From OleHickory

I have the US badges. I think they were marketed here by the Selmer Group but I am still researching this.

I have never heard about US badges on Olympics... got pictures ?

As far as I know, they only used African mahogany at Premier.

And keep in mind that some drums may be birch and some mahogany. The light is not the same on the shots. You may have a mixed kit. Very common to find mixed birch/mahogany kits from Premier/Beverley/Olympic early 70's.

Here are a few photo's from my orphan kit, purchased on ebay. The 14x20 and 8x12 were found in a storage locker with guitars and drum stands. The gentleman who listed the drums was the winning bidder at auction. The sale of the contents paid the storage rental fees. I was informed by Dave Seville from the UK that these drums were never offered in the European market. I purchased the tom arm from Dave.

The floor tom was from an abused kit I purchased this past summer. It is wrapped in the main color tone of the other two as no digital printer can duplicate the Premier shimmer look. I purchased the Olympic chrome snare drum in early spring 2014 to complete the ensemble.

That is a beautiful kit Bob.

I love the mahogany sound.

My first kit was a Olympic by Premier in silk white.

I have tried to get my hands on that exact kit but the guy I sold it to dosen't know where it is :(

The images that I posted are from an ebay listing.

I am trying to get my hands on a kit like that.

How much i an early 70s olympic kit worth 20-12-14 ?

Thank you for the compliment. They are fun to play and the guys I work with enjoy hearing the old round sound.

My best guess is in the range of US$250 - US$300.00

I needed to look at my receipts from last year for this drum set;

Bass and rack tom US$168.00

1 Pair of DW Hoop mount spurs US$40.00

16x15 Floor tom from my Pittsburgh travels US$150.

Tom arm cost from UK US$37.00

Model 1005 Olympic by Premier snare drum US$74.00

Here are two photos from the abused set I purchased for parts. Someone had installed a Pearl double tom system and I will have help fixing those holes this coming spring.

I hope some of our members here can post their opinion about the pricing of Vintage Premier drums.

I have a Slingerland project waiting for me that looks just like yours Bob.

It's 70s Sling with 20-12-14. Someone has installed early 80s Tama hardware on it.

That is going to be my winther project.

Thanks for sharing Bob ;)

Every shell you have posted a picture of is mahogany, 100%, the grain pattern gives it away. The shells look light because of lighting and the fact that the wood is unsealed, old and probably very dry. If you wipe it with a damp rag it will be much more brown / red. The best shells Premier ever made, early 70s. Most of them went to Premier drums, however, I have had both Olympic and Beverly shells made from mahogany as well.

Those shells will clean up into an amazing sounding kit. Good luck!

OleHickory, did you buy that Olympic bass head with the logo attached or get one of those decals and affixed it to a blank head?

Found it!!
