Pearl wood / fiberglass in red oyster

Loading...

Hello to the Pearl experts

I have a chance to buy these drums for $300.00 plus shipping

They are very cool looking and I know they have some popularity

being the wood with the fiberglass

But they have been wide open on the reso side and moved from one outside storage building to another for years now

The seller is absolutely firm and then there is the shipping

No spurs, no other hardware at all save for a bass pedal FT legs and tom arms which are not in complete condition

reso edge dings and some wrap splits as well.

.What say yee about these??? ..Thanks Kenwood

They would clean up nice...but with new heads/parts..you would have a lot of $$

$ into it.....

Pity they have been let go to that condition.. that 73-74 chrome will clean up some, however will require regular polishing to look any good. The splits in the wrap would be a real challenge.. as would bearing edges.

I would not pay more than 100 bucks for a kit like that..

Cheers

I think I would pass as well. Shipping will be significant as those are heavy drums even without the bottom hoops.

I had a kit like that in silver satin with all hardware in really good shape with a 24" kick and cases that I sold for $450 and felt that was fair.

Man, I love that wrap! But, I've never run across any of it (in the red or blue) that didn't have the rips in it that this one does! It wasn't the same quality and thickness that their solid color wraps were (like my Blue Gloss's) and just could not hold up to temperature change and time!

IF you buy this, I do have some of the wrap for patching. I also have a 22" hoop... but sorry, it's inlay is the blue oyster. Sent some of it to jccabinets once upon a time.

$300, IMO sounds a little steep given it's overall condition. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! The chrome will take a lot of work, and if you choose to rewrap it will be expensive. Replacing the spurs or reso rims shouldn't be too much of a problem. I've probably got the missing wing screws for the tom mounts, too. Given it's construction (9-ply with the layer of FG) the reso sides should still be in round. Rock Hard water putty and patient hand sanding should touch up the bearing edges OK.

4 toms, given their sizes is a plus, IMO. Too bad the BD wasn't a 24. That would have been a big plus. You are probably right about the snare drum... it looks like a cheapie.

How far will it need to ship? Is there any way to make the trip to pick it up? It would take at least two boxes, and should have 3. Shipping won't be cheap...

Don't know if any of that helps or not. Along with the FG drums, I love these things! IMO neither get a fair shake from the overall vintage drum community!

And if I remember right, yours were in pretty close to mint shape weren't they?

The dilemma. If heads were not an issue. $400 could be put to better use elsewhere is my opinion. Love those crazy Pearl late 60s wraps.
