Looking good. Would you care to share some serial numbers? I'm seeing a few details that suggest mid/late 70's. Numbers at or over 150xxx would be expected.

Sure. I can do that after I pick them up next week. I'm guessing mid-70s.

One great thing about Slingerlands in the mid 20th century is that they kept building their wonderful 60's drums well into the 70's.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

OK, I get it. I thought you all meant flipped upside down. The owner has the 14" on his left and the 13" on the right. When I went to see them, the 13" was correctly on the left and 14" on the right. Whatever, I will only use one rack tom at a time and will alternate the 13" and 14" depending on the gig and situation, and they'll always be mounted on a floor stand. I have the second generation Set-O-Matic tom holder, but because the BD is 24", the toms are a bit too high for me. I'm a one rack tom guy anyway.

Some of these guys can be so picky. I didn't even notice the tone controls until they mentioned it.

Looks great no matter how it's setup.

If you were to switch your shoes around, you'd be going against the intended design of the shoes. I guess that would be up to the individual, as well. But if someone pointed it out, then I wouldn't call it being picky....more like being helpful. The switched toms were the first thing I noticed, too. I agree that it's a nice Christmas present, regardless, though.

Ahh, but switching your shoes around would be uncomfortable and probably bad for your feet, but having the tone controls facing in or out would make no difference in comfort or sound, so it really makes no difference which way they face. D' Drummer

Well what about if an audience member decides to turn the knobs due to the temptation of those knobs facing them? Ever think of THAT? NO???? Okay then! ....;) You could be right in the middle of the greatest version of Theme to Hawaii Five-O you've ever played and then some audience member sees those knobs, goes up and turns them FULL ON! *thup, thup thup" ...RUINED!!!
