My "new" Ludwigs

Loading...

I won this set on da' bay, not a steal, but a great deal IMHO. The seller listed the sizes as 20", (2) 12", 16" and said they are from 1966. I can't match those to any models offered in the '64 or '67 catalogs posted on this site. It may have been pieced together. But, check out the auction page and tell me what you think.

Thanks in advance for I am off to work. Car Driving2

A little spit and polish and it should look good. Not a terrible deal, cymbals make it worth it, Acrolites are just as good as a Supra, just not chromed....

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Nice grab. It looks to me like it's a Hollywood kit. Back in the day (early to mid 60's) they offered double-tom kits with matching toms. They didn't get into 12,13 setups until after 65ish. Your kit dates 65, so it is feasible for the twin 12's to be factory. One would tension the left 12 high and the right 12 low for a tonal spread. Neat kit. I don't need to tell you this, but check those bottom edges when you get it. Rims and tension screws are cheap. You can get this kit back together for little of nothing (if the stuff looks as good as the pics). Neat cymbal gift. It's always nice to get those little 'extras' when you snag a cool kit. Nice job.

Thanks guys. I asked the seller about the bottom bearing edges and he said one of the 12's is a little dinged up. I was planning on using the hardware from that one to complete the other and just use one mounted tom.

That kit will look and sound great!. Polish and TLC will only up the value and appeal.

Some other things that sold me on the set; I just sold my early 80's Pearl kit with the hopes of going 60's, American - Ludwig, Rogers, Slingerland or Gretsch. I already have a set of cymbals - 16", 18" and a 22" ride w/ 14" hats, all Avedis. I already have a couple of Supra's - '67 and 80ish (6.5). I already have an Acrolite. I already have a throne and a bass pedal and a cymbal stand. So, more than likely I'll end up selling an Acro' and a few cymbals to offset some of the cost and get new heads. Or, I may just keep saving for a Rogers of the same vintage. Plus, I love to restore and this one looks like it will be fairly easy to clean up.

This is my first truly vintage set and I'm very excited, to say the least. Excited

I can't wait to clean it up and show it off. Jump For Joy

Looks like a great find. I bet they clean up nicely. Seems like every time I find some drums on craigslist or a pwan shop, there is a acrolite in the kit. I have 4 and already sold one. All four are different. The one I sold was excatly like one I kept. I love my snare collection. Someone said "you cant have to many acrolites" lol as far as im concerned "you cant have to many drums, especially ludwigs" I agree with Mc, just tune them different and keep both toms. congrats!!!!!

BTW did you get them yet? maybe they will have a date stamped on the inside of the shells and the serial numbers will coinside. Which zildjian did you get? I bought a pearl export kit bass, 1 tom a floor tom and hi hat stand with a pretty new 14" z new beats a few months ago for 150. The hats were worth that! lol and it came with a iron cobra jr bass drum pedal.

If you get the good cymbals it sure sweetens the deal.
