They haven't even shipped, yet. If I don't get a "shipped" notice tomorrow, I will contact the seller. Then again, I sent the seller a message yesterday asking him to confirm that the bass is 20" because I found a head on ebay for it. I haven't heard back.
My "new" Ludwigs Last viewed: 10 seconds ago
Still haven't heard anything from the seller. I sent a message yesterday morning asking for a ship date. Auction ended on 5/28 and I paid immediately. How long before I report to ebay?
This kind of thing just really annoys me. It's very poor business. I always ship within a day of being paid. For my last auction, it was a 7 piece set with all the hardware, I stated it may take a day or two extra to ship. This seller could have at least notified me at the end of auction that there might be a delay. For the price I paid he owes me that, at minimum.
[end rant]
You should allow at LEAST 5 days for shipping notification. After that, and you still haven't heard from the seller...pout.
I understand your frustrated. But trust me that set is well worth the wait. Just relax and try to keep it out of your head.
Did I tell you I found almost this exact set except it has been painted over.

I read that. Did you decide what you're going to do? The fact that the drums are painted should give you good leverage when it comes to negotiating price. Keep us informed.
And thanks for the calming words. Patience is not my forte'. Cool Dude
No, I'm still thinking about it. I mean if I figure out it is possible to get the paint of and save the finish I most likely will buy them.(Depending on condition of the chrome and bearing edges). You really did get a great deal on your new ludwig set. There is something so classy about silver sparkle. Hope you get them soon and good luck on the restoration.

Well, if the price is right, it might be worth it to try. At the very least you'd have some great shells.
As far as the restoration, I've got a bass reso head and eight tension rods on the way. I won them both on ebay - they might both be the correct vintage. Check it:
So, all I really need now is a 16" floor tom rim. I will decide the fate of the other 12" tom when I get the set.
Well, I still haven't heard from the seller, but they were on my doorstep this afternoon!!!! Great surprise for a Friday after a long week of work.
The two 12" toms are in great shape - one is stamped Jan 22 1966, the other has no stamp. The bottom edges aren't the best, but they're not bad. The 16" is stamped April 1 1966.
The hi-hat stand and bass pedal are nice. The acrolite is an 80's model - rounded b/o. The ride cymbal is a ZBT:( I think the rest are Avedis, but I'll have to examine them further. The cymbal stands are newer, heavy duty models - one by Tama, one by Sonor. It also came with a Ludwig cowbell. I will need to replace all the heads.
The bass has no stamp. I will also have to get some silver sparkle for the inlay on one of its hoops. It has extra holes, too - it was retrofitted with a newer tom mount. Also, there is an extra spur mount on the top of the bass. It's not in the proper location to suggest it was converted to a floor tom. Any ideas?

I'll keep on updating with more pics as I go along with getting them in shape.
Love it, love it, love it. I'm so glad you got this set. Silver sparkle is one of my favorite finishes.

I finished the first drum from this set.
I robbed the other 12" tom of its hardware and used it to finish this one. I also had to glue the wrap at the seam as it was coming up a little.

I've got the other drums in pieces and I'm waiting on some hardware - tension rods, L-arm cymbal holder and a hoop - to finish it all. I still have to sand and paint the hoops and put on some new inlay, too. I might be finished by next weekend. :o
