Tom - Something only an 'over 55' American drummer would know! Yes Sir

I got to hate playing Free-Bird for the same reason - because of the number of requests for it. I used to like that song... and playing wipe-out got stale in the mid-sixties, you remember... the Paleolithic era.

Didn't we all get tired of "Wipe Out" requests?! At one point I played in a club act and used electronic drums with a rack full of samplers, drum machines, etc. I programmed the drum part into a sequencer and set my pads to send no MIDI information, therefore, I was just faking it. I started playing as you would expect and tried to make it look as dramatically as possible. After a few bars I started playing it with on hand "amazing" the audience. Eventually I just stood up and walked away as the song continued. It was good for some laughs.

That's hysterical! Dang ... wish I'd thought of that. Funny funny stuff.

Some early influences on me were..

"Take Five".. Morello

"Peggy Sue" Buddy Holly..

Lots of Shadows..Brian Bennett

Loved the feels of.. "Ressurrection Shuffle" & "White Room"

Anything vaguely Gadd or Porcaro "ish"

& Honky Tonk Woman sure "rings a bell"

Cheers

Nobody's mentioned Charlie Watt's cowbell intro to "Honky Tonk Woman".

Loved that one when I was younger. It felt so 'off' when I first tried to play it.

Ok, here's one for ya.....

Steve Goulding......yeah, ok, who is he? He's the guy who played drums on Elvis Costello's Watching the Detectives. Can't get any more distinctive a drum track sound that that.....only distorted drum sound that I can recall in recent times on record......
