Got another one! The dude who blasts out the theme song to Hawaii Five O. Definitely an iconic percussion lick!
Also, Bun E. Carlos' Surrender song where he kills the snare drum when the singer is singing "yay" and he is doing a 99 stroke roll or something. Cool, Iconic, riff there for sure! Along with the fact Howard Stern dubbed this particular song the best rock and roll song of all time, which with his fan base, sort of adds to the iconicism (sp, is it a word?, go with it!)
Ok....I've got one....
Stan Lynch.........so many to list.....
Refuge, Here Comes My Girl, American Girl, Mary Jane's Last Dance.....I could go on and on! Stan's drumming is so recognizable and iconic, I can tell within the first couple of beats that it's Stan.
No offense to Steve Ferrone, a great drummer in his own right, but I believe that Stan was and still is the right drummer for the Heartbreakers. I just wish that Tom and Stan can settle their differences someday so we can have Stan back where he belongs.......in the Heartbreakers.

So true, Stan played some great tracks. Maybe we can bring back Liberty DeVitto to the Billy Joel fold while we are at it (I'm not a huge Joel fan, but Liberty is an awesome drummer).
Radar Love - Cesar Zuiderwijk
Hypnotized - Mick Fleetwood
Ballroom Blitz - Mick Tucker
Cissy Strut - Joe "Zigaboo" Modeliste (The Meters)..love this one
I figured that most would have the "Usual Suspects" listed, so I tried to hit a couple that would fall through the cracks. Here's four of them.
"I Fought The Law" Bobby Fuller Four ... amazing drum opening for the era (either DeWayne Quirico or Dalton Powell) ... great use of hihat/snare for beat emphasis. We've all heard it and remember it when it's time to push a song ... listen to it again. Mindblowing for that era.
"Hot Child in the City" Nick Gilder ... Craig Krampf had excellent Rogers tom sounds all over this one (and many others from this time frame). Those stuttered fills were the goal of many young drummers of the day.
Most all from the Steve Miller Greatest Hits (74-78) album ... absolutely stunning sounds from a china that most would have thrown away long before it made it to tape. Love Gary Mallaber! (John King did a bit of work on that one, but Gary was the star)
"Higher Ground" Stevie Wonder ... the man killed on drums.
I'm posting as they come to me...lol
Rock Candy/Bad Motor Scooter - Denny Carmassi
Anybody mention Charlie Watts' part on, 'Honky Tonk Women'? Or Corky Laing on, 'Mississippi Queen'?
John
Man, you're right, John! "Honky Tonk Women"! Charley's the best for laying down a rock-steady groove. His hi-hat work is the best!
This is a great post!
