Going back and checking my 2 butt plate side by side pics, they are different for sure.

The one with the knob has a lot more space for adjusting the plate up and down.

The one with just the screws is a lot smaller and is most likely stock as the slotted screws match everything else. This is also what Stew has on his much revered snare :)

Hopefully picking up in hand from Goodwill later this morning a Pearl snare that has the knob style butt and getting a COB Pearl by Sunday USPS sometime today to inspect the non knob butt :)

Found it!!

DrummerJohn,

A magnet does not stick to the shell of my snare. Can't remember what that means...

EDIT: Just saw your other post. Looks like I have a COB.

I have two of those "reeded" snares- a President 10 lug with the adjustable butt and a "Dixie" 8 lug with a standard butt. Both are good drums, but I prefer the Dixie... right now. Much heavier than the later stencil Pearl COS models. Some nice "Clank" when playing off the rim.

Perhaps the Dixie is older (I happen to have a 72-74 Dixie kit that came with a wood snare) and the older the better, as not uncommon in Vintage or near vintage drums. Perhaps into the 80s and 90s they made the shells thinner so as to use less material and maximize their profits by minimizing their cost.

Good thing to know- thanks for your input!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
