Thought that strainer was the 80's version?

Nice catch, been looking for a COB Pearl like the one Stew still uses and picked one up

from Reverb last week. Can't wait until it arrives! :D

This is just steel - but looks to be in good condition. Clean it up right (NO STEEL WOOL) and it will look real sharp. These snares sound GREAT - Pearl made stencil COS - just like or very similar to this - is what Stew used in the early days before he grabbed a Brass version of the same thing. (Or maybe I am wrong here - maybe he still uses steel. Point is, he first started out (and seven recorded I understand) with a stencil snare just like this.

The BIN price is only $15 here people!!! Shipping listed at like 37 for me to Michigan, wonder if it is less closer to the seller?

Best case scenario - you live in the same town as this guy and you can go right to his door and hand him $15.

Whoa, I'm under the impression Stew recorded the Police using the COB version of the Pearl?! Also that he had a die cast rim installed on the batter. Tons of information located on his FB page regarding what is also known as 'the' snare :)

All I care about is having something similar to what he used on the Police recordings :)

I think it's similar/ equal to Star's King Beat snare drum, but this one without parallel action.

Yes - very similar to Star's shell with one line of etching. I remember this caused confusion as to who made that shell and speculation that they both did or that there was a 3rd party supplier.

As for this offering on the bay, the strainer and muffler are surely Pearl. GREAT snare though - especially for $15!!

I saw in a video at Sacred Grove where it shows "THE snare" had a Gladstone style throwoff made by Pearl - early 70s, no badge, did not know it was Brass. Cool for Stewart to share that insight!

Pretty sure Stew's is a '77 Pearl as it has the 3 lines or beads.

The earlier Gladstone throw Pearl snares had a single bead but came in both steel or brass. The whole Pearl thing is rather confusing, been researching the whole affair again this entire time since we've been posting :D

There's even more mystery as to whether or not these single beaded earlier Pearl's had dual tension adjustments as a stock item. I've seen versions missing the butt side adjustment knob and versions with the knob.

Once I get my later 70's brass snare and inspect the butt plate, I'll know more.

Also will be picking up a snare just like this one very soon too and it has the butt side adjustment knob.
