Heh, the more I think about this, I believe the second picture just might be stock.

The screws look like they can adjust the butt side, maybe a revision from having a knob as I bet the knob loosened up while playing with the snares off so they made the butt with simple slotted screws that could be tightened down...

to think that THAT THERE VERY DRUM was used to record (fill in the blank here of any classic Police song) - cool!

Even though it is clearly made by Pearl - still fits the description that it was some Pearl made stencil snare drum that he used - because there is no badge on that drum. Though I have never heard of a stencil snare drum that was made out of Brass!

Everything in this picture indicates COB and also doesn't have the older stencil? butt side tension knob :)

No - that is the same snare as the FB pic. Not all Pearl made stencil snares had the adjustable butt. This appears to be the case with Stew's snare as well. It could have had the Pearl badge, but fallen off? If so, it would have been before Stew got it, as I believe he refers to it as a Pearl made stencil.

I always think of Pearl's stencil era as ending in the early to mid 70's, am I wrong on that?

I should ask, what is the time period for Pearl's stencil kits and I'm assuming it has to do with their namesake badges that look to be glued onto the shells, not a grommet badge?

Ugh, forgot that stencil refers to Pearl and Tama making dozens of outifts for other drum companies/catalogs :) Getting a bit loopy!

Well now. I've had a snare since the mid-seventies that could be the twin brother to the ebay one pictured in drummerjohn333's original post. Badge & muffler are long gone, but the rest of the bits look the same. To think I've been hanging on to it all these years when I could've flipped it for 15 bucks.

EricP, I wonder if the second pic is a stock adjustable butt plate missing parts? Maybe lost or removed the adjusting knob, and used other screws to make it function. Just a guess.

Here is my Pearl snare, bought new in 1973, but this has two beads I guess? What is mine if you can tell?

Hey Ben,

I do not have these drums (mine) in front of me, but my guess is that it is not just missing a part. I have seen several of these type of drums with that piece serving as the butt end. A close look at these and some catalog pics might be able to confirm this.

Is your snare here made of Brass? That's nice!
