Kid's drums

Loading...

I am starting on my kid's drum project. My brother gave me some shells he had. They are a 8 & 10" tom toms, 12" snare and a 13" floor tom. I had an old 16" floor tom I am making the bass out of. I put the tom hardware on the bass drum and the tom toms tonite. I am going to wrap this kit with the wrap your drums in orange sparkle for $59 from ebay. I ordered a roll of the killer hi bond tape from drum maker along with 16" bass drum hoops and a few other things. I have remo pinstrip heads for all the drums, but i had to order the resonant heads for the whole kit. I snagged a jr ludwig bass pedal from ebay a few weeks ago. The only thing I dont have for this project is a jr hi hat stand. I have found one I can order. When Im done I hope to have a very nice junior drum kit. here's some pics of what I have done so far. I am very pleased with the results so far.

Looks like a fun project. I plan on a mini-kit of my own very similar to this. I've even got a roll or green Sparkle-Brite I'm planning on using. I'll be interested to watch your progress.

Poppy, I'll be very curious to see what you think of this $59 wrap off of ebay. Please let us know how it compares in look to real wrap and how easy it is to apply. I have a cheapie kit I'm restoring and I'm thinking of taking this route. Thanks in advance!

Oh and that wrap, I too am curious about it. Mostly I'm curious as to if it's the same thing as the slightly cheaper Sparkle-Brite you can order from Dick Blick. IIRC, the seller insists it's not, but I don't see it as anything but. I have a roll of green sparkle that looks exactly like your orange. (Dig the orange!)

Awesome project and make that person number 3 interested in the wrap and it's quality/durability.

Also, you may want to cut those tom arms down a bit so the intrude less into the kick. Hey, even kids want a nice resonant kick sound :)

Poppy, I have a smaller, less heavy-duty Pulse snare stand which I think goes pretty low. If you're interested in it, I'll measure the actual height (at it's lowest setting). It's in mint condition and even though it's the Pulse brand, it's well made and sturdy for it's size.

I'd let 'er go for $20.00 plus shipping. Might fit that kit better.

I do need to cut the tom arms down a little huh. We have a metal chop saw here at the shop. I am pretty sure that this so called drum wrap is in fact sparkle bright. Its definatly not going to be as durable as regular drum wrap, but I dont want to spend a fortune on this kit. I already spent 65 on the tom arm set up and 60 on heads and 59 on wrap, I know when Im done Im gonna count my expenses and kick myself for not just buying a ludwig junior kit, but his kit will be an acomplishment I hope! This wrap is pressure sensitive. Peel the backing off and its sorts like contact paper. I am going to try the hi bond tape method and leave the backing in the wrap, instead of peeling the backing off and sticking it solid to the shell. With the backing on the wrap I believe it may be sturdier, plus I wont have to have as smooth of a surface.

Ill keep y'all posted

I am interested in your snare stand also.

I just finished reassembling my Ludwig jr bass drum pedal. It turned out killer! It was this ugly gold color with the finish all chipped, but the pedal worked great. I buffed all the finish off of the main pedal bracket and had it powder coated textured black for $15.00. I polished the pedal with my dremel wire brush and groove juice. I went to tandy leather and got a piece of saddle leather and some black dye and replaced the strap. Greased all the bushings with wheel bearing grease. It looks great and works great too. I'll be wraping soon!

Nice job on the pedal! Now you just need some 10" HiHats, a nice 16" heavy A Zil for a ride and maybe a couple of 12" and 14" thin Zil's for crashes.

Maybe you could find a couple of used 10" Sabian B8 (ProSonic) splashes for the hats?

This kit will be way cooler than a Ludwig Jr. Kit because you made it.

I'll go measure that snare stand for ya!
