Geo.Way Kit Practice Session Soundfile Last viewed: 8 seconds ago

Thank you John! Wow, they look great. That is a real nice wrap choice. You know those 70's Ludwigs that I am working on, I am considering regular drum wrap as opposed to veneer and stain which is getting kind of boring. I set up my Slingerland kit (the one I wrapped in WMP a couple years ago) at our place of practice and everyone loved the WMP finish. Not sure if I would want a sparkle but if I did that Burgandy would be top of the list for sure.

Thanks for posting the pics!

Thank you!

That's a great sounding kit and I like the ride and crash, the one over the floor, not so much. I love seeing you guys play and hearing your vintage drums.

BTW, how do you get the vids on here without a link? I thought I knew how to do it, but apparently I don't.

Jeff - Here's another clip I made for you -with the Pandiero-! The idea for the Pandiero is something I copped from Stanton Moore. Papa Jo Jones used to keep a floor tom in that position, over by the hi-hats. I just love having it there for when ever I need added bottom end to whatever I'm playing. The Pandiero just makes whatever lick I'm playing sound heavy. Here it is, warts and all. I didn't do much editing. I just played a few things for you so you can hear how the Pandiero fits into the kit. Enjoy...

Mark - The one over the floor is the one I don't like either. I had an old 18" K in that spot but it developed a crack around the bell so I stopped playing it. I need a good dark 18" in that spot.

Sounding real good John. The panderio is cool. What size drum is it? You say it is a floor tom?

Great playing too, I like that funky sound.

Thank you!

The Pandiero is basically a 13" tunable tambourine. It's a Brazilian instrument. I have one with a calf head which really helps to warm up the sound it produces. I have it tuned down low, in between my 12" rack tom and the 16" floor tom. Because it's so shallow, it produces a nice low tone that compliments either the bass drum or the floor tom. When I want to make anything sound heavy, I'll use the Pandiero with the floor tom and bass drum. Sounds like a drum corp. coming down the street with the jingles going and the deep drum sounds. I love playing that stuff.

Mark - At You Tube under the video window click on 'Share.' A dialog box with the URL for posting your video in other locations will appear. Click inside the URL box to highlight it, then go to Edit and click, 'Copy.' When you write your post for VDF just add the URL (go to Edit/Paste) to the message and click Post Reply when you're done. The You Tube video will show up embedded inside your post when people read your comment. If you have problems when you try, just pm me. I'll try to walk you through it.

I hope you don't mind if I hijack your thread, but I think this Club Date kit I use to own sounds similar to your kit.

BTW, always wear headphones when listening to these vids, computer or even stereo speakers don't do them justice.

Mark - No hi-jack at all, I see you figured out how to embed the You Tube video into a post! I hope the other guys start to make some sound files of their vintage kits. It's more fun to listen to these old kits than it is to talk about them!

Thanks PS, I finally figured it out and I agree, I want to hear more guys playing their kits. Don't be shy guys, it makes no difference of your skill level, none of us here are Buddy Rich, we would just like to see and hear your great drums.

+1 Well said! I hope some guys do it, it's not hard. All you need is any old video cam and the will to do it. Some guys here own great old kits that I'd love to hear. It would be great to simply type, 'Radio King' into the Search box and come up with a sound file for the kit. People just have to post them up.
