Geo.Way Kit Practice Session Soundfile Last viewed: 9 hours ago

Howdy, I want to add a sound file to the forum for my George Way kit. It's not a 'performance'. I sometimes video my practice sessions so I can see and hear what I'm doing wrong, it's a great learning tool! The camera I'm using is a Zoom Q2HD that my buddy Mick (MickM) gifted me recently. It was a thank you for coaching him. It turns out that the videos also make for good sound files for the drums. I grabbed some bits of me noodling on the kit so you'll be able to hear the sound/tone of all the drums in the set. This clip is an opportunity to hear a sweet vintage set of drums. It might be hard to tell when I'm hitting the bass drum because I use some linear fills that incorporate the bass drum (into) the riff. Anyway, just me noodling, it's not a 'chops exposition' by any means, it's only me enjoying my drums at home. Please enjoy the sound of this kit! I really love these drums. Awesome warm tone, fun to play.

PS - The badges were missing from the two toms when I bought the drums. I have two 'Oaklawn Camco' badges on there as place holders until I can secure two George Way badges.

I hate to say it Purdie, but you need some Rogers drums. Those Way's are way off the mark. A nice set in BDP just went up for sale here on the forum. Get off that drum throne and run over and grab 'em! Laughing H

Dan - Dang! That's a real nice one and great price too! I already have a 9/72 Blue Onyx dbl. bass drum kit or I'd snag that one! If I bring another drum kit into the house my wife will beat me over the head with it!

Blair - I'm happy with two of the pies in the kit, not the third one over the floor tom. I had an old 18" K in that spot but it developed a crack around the bell so I swapped it out. I like to hear the sticking pattern on cymbals so yes, I do have a tendency to like heavier pies.

I'm loving these Way drums. Thanks Mike, Justin....

Nice one John. I listened to the clip about 3 times thru the Harman Kardon speakers and bass box that came with my obsolete Dell computer and it sounded good. Then I got my lazy butt up and got some headphones and man!, It's like nite and day difference. What ever settings you have the audio set on are working fine. The cymbals came out nice too.

Gotta' remember it's one mic placed about what? 8-10 feet in front of the kit and maybe 5 ft off the floor? Pretty good sound for such a rig.

Not that I'm gonna' post any clips of my "drumming" but when I downloaded the Handyshare software my 'puter says unknown device in usb port blah, blah, blah. I have to work it out or get one of the 20 yr. old technoids from work to stop over, fix it, and have a chuckle at my expense.:D

Believe it or else!

Mick - Don't try to open the 'camera' with Handyshare. You have to set the Zoom to the 'Card Reader' setting (the screen comes up when you plug a USB connection from the Zoom to the computer,) then from Handyshare find the 'Card Reader' icon click on it and then import the movie file you'll find in there. If you come by Monday, I'll show you. You can sit down and play the Way kit!

Sounds good. What is that finish on the drums? Can we have a pic or two showing the finish/wrap please?

Thank you!

Jeff - It's the new Burgundy sparkle from Delmar. It's called 'Merlot' these days, like the wine. I got the wrap from Precision Drum Co. I love dealing with those guys. Always reliable and great service.

Here are a couple of shots of the kit. (*That's a 13" Pandiero on the left of the high-hats in photo #3. )
