I must add one thing here..yes everybody knows about D/W drums some love them some don't...I for one think the newer d.w.'s from 1990 on are not made that good and are way over priced..But i will say the first D.W.'s made in 1982 are the best sounding drums they ever made--they D.W. used all of Camco's old stock shells--lugs--rims--t-rods and claws ete that Camco used before closing down..so to me they are and will be the best sounding D.W.'s made...mikey

The old ones are great, the new ones are not so great. I still have my first kit. '83 Ludwig with maple shells, I can't give 'em away, they sit not being played. Ordered a 2005 Maple classic, the toms would not tune at all. The kookiest overtones. Traded that kit for a USA Gretsch and I kiss 'em all the time because they couldn't sound any better.

What'cha got? I happen to love the 6 ply stuff as well as the 3-ply...

Adam,no need to get defensive my post was not an attack on you. You read in so many places about guys judging drums based on little to no experience or knowledge. the backline scenario was one of them (and thats why i responded to your input on this) the music store is another one. "I played x kit on the shop floor and it sounded 1000 times better than x kits big brother y kit - i don't see the reason why one is more expensive". I don't think you mentioned having played dw's in many different scenarios and thus i thought you had just used backline kits.I gave you background on Camco for clarities sake, because i disagree with your reasoning.but none of this was intended to offend you and the tone of my post was not aggressive. - Justin

Its cool Justin. No worries! I was just getting a little frustrated and feeling like I was being made out as the bad guy shooting his mouth off with no experience or understanding of what a good sounding kit is. Water under the bridge. Absolutely no hard feelings on my end!

'83 Ludwig. I'm the only owner. Originally in plain blue. Overtime the kit was a mess, so, I had Craig from Motor City Drum Kitchen put the black oyster on. The kit looks like it's a million bucks, but, it only sounds ok. I have the original black and white badges, they were so beat up, we had to put different badges on. Craig had the blue/olive badges. Everything is original except one floor tom hoop a couple of tension rods. The tom arm holder is from the 70's, but, I still have the original holder.

ps the WMP snare is a Rogers Powertone
