Hi All, No shots of the bearing edges but maybe someone can share their expertise on this drum. I have tried to find out by going to the Slingy articles on this site as well as checking out the Rob Cook book but I have come up with nothing definitive regarding if this is 1 ply or not. I assumed all RK from this era were 1 ply. I do know that Slingerland produced 3 ply RK's later on . I don't know what year ..... Here is a shot of the strainer and badge. Unfortunately that is all I have to go on..... Thanks

In the course of this convoluted thread, I don't think anyone's addressed the easiest answer to your question... remove a head and it will be obvious.

Well thanks. I don't have the drum in my possession which is part of the reason why I have the questions.

...........

Can you have someone trustworthy do it for you?

Even without any other visual reference, a single ply is easily differentiated from a striated 3 ply. It should also be the same color as the re-rings on the interior, as opposed to a darker inner mahogany ply.

Well she has arrived! 1 ply beauty. The top rim looks like COB and the bottom looks like NOB but I could be wrong. The snare wires are original too! It's a great drum.

Thanks for all your replies.

OK forget the badge your photos I can't tell, look at the the 3 point strainer it is from 1950-1958, look at this link. your drum is a 50's model! http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_5_strainers_3point-8.html
