Crown drums

Loading...

Hello again non USA drum folk

These Crown drums have been showing up on Craig's list

off and on for a year or better.

There was also a thread on them here that I can no longer seem to find

Anyway I bought them last weekend and have been slowly cleaning them

I wanted to get a thread going hoping to find a snare drum

I have a Pacific cx maple snare with a very similar wrap

But would of course love to have the matching one with the cool Crown badge on it .

One thing I noticed as I was buying them

they look to be the same lugs and bass drum spur brackets as my Tiger eye Matador drums

also like the Matador kit this Crown kit was built to be played left handed

..to play them right handed the badges on the two mounted toms face inward

weird to find two kits one right after the other set up lefty like that ...Kenwood

The drums are in pretty nice condition

the bass drum has a lifted seam on the bottom

I have four bass drums that have these same spur brackets

but not a single spur rod for any of them

The brackets are mounted fairly high on the drum

so using long straight legs looks completely ridiculous

I would guess the originals would come out at the usual angle and then

drop more or less straight down to meet the floor ???

Very nice! Lots of lugs all around! 10 on the kick and 8 per tom...

I wouldn't be surprised if the original spurs did indeed look ridiculous, think I've seen that splayed look. Clip-ons are great for MIJ...

I can't see your kick brackets in the pictures, but I have a couple of kits with the brackets mounted fairly high, and they are all straight legs. It does look a little clumsy, but I think that's what your set would take.

Love that the logo heads came with the set. Cool

Ken, those are sweet! I have never seen that wrap, but I certainly hope you find the matching snare. Could be that they had one of the COS snares. Try that, you might find it easier. I've seen many of this vintage with a metal snare.

Man! I had a red sparkle Crown set once with a 6,5 wooden snare and a 14x24 bass drum. One of the best sounding drums I've ever heard!
