My first kit was a gold sparkle Crown with that badge. Very cool badges. Mine had a COS snare. I sold the kit forty years ago, but ran across the snare (my old snare, in fact. Or at least one that had the same dent, and P-83 strainer like I installed).

Hello fellow non-U.S.A. drum enthusiasts

I had to dig this thread out from page two

as several non drum related distractions have been my focus

Thank You very kindly to those that typed responses and dammed sorry for the delay

Hello Mitch,

Yes this is the first and only MIJ kit I have found with eight lug toms

as for the splayed look of the long straight spur rods ...there just has to be a better way even at the risk of not being spot on original

I like the clip on idea ..but not the clip on price

I have one pair of vintage Ludwig clip ons

I like the look but noticed that on eight lug 20" bass drums that the claws interfere just enough to have the spurs not quite meet the floor and/or provide that little bit of lift to the drum if you go to the lower side of the aforementioned claws they don't work at all

I have not tried them on the 22" 10 lug Crown bass yet or any 22" bass for that matter

Looking into some aluminum or stainless rod where I can custom bend some legs

which will use the existing spur brackets but then bend downwards to meet the floor and be stable

without the goofy looking splayed look

Howdy Skink

Yes I have some Star and Majestic bass drums with the brackets higher on the shell

And those spurs are all long and straight and marginally clumsy looking

These bass drum brackets seem to be the lesser known Hoshino type

maybe late sixties or early seventies

I have two 22" ten luggers the Crown and a blue sparkle Olympian

Also I have a black 22" eight lug Dorado (by Gretsch Made in Japan )

and finally the Matador 20" in tiger eye and man with straight legs they all look ridiculous

..I will try and post a pic of those brackets

And oh yes ...Thanks about the Crown drum heads they were pretty dirty and loaded with tape residue

I very carefully scrubbed them staying away from the crown logos as best I could

Love it! I just finished a BDP Stewart kit with the same "speedboat" style lugs and another Bollero last week that has similar attributes. I'm assuming these are Pearl?

1964 Ludwig Champagne Super Classic
1970 Ludwig Blue Oyster Super Classic
1977 Rogers Big R Londoner 5 ebony
1972/1978 Rogers Powertone/Big R mix ebony
60's Ludwig Supersensitive
Pearl B4514 COB snare ( the SC snare)
Pearl Firecracker
PJL WMP maple snare
Odds & Sods

Sabians, Paistes, Zildjians, Zyns, UFIPs, MIJs etc

Definitely bend some round-stock for the legs agreed! You could put a nice Ludwig curve on em...tho they wouldn't retract.

I assume you're talking about the short clip-on spurs [pic], which don't work optimally on a 20" six-lugger either - same claw interference deal. But I imagine the long ones that clip to the hoop are similarly vulnerable heh...I like to use legs and clips if there's a kick-mounted tom.

I don't think I've ever seen even pictures of 8-lug MIJ toms! 10-lug kicks, but that's it...

Hello jonnistix Thanks pal

Yes I have never seen this wrap either

there is a similar blue shade with the Crown drums

in a horizontal strata type pattern

Thanks about the snare and oh heck yes a chrome snare would be fine as long as it has that big Crown logo on it

Hello Vintage drum bug

WOW! a 24" MIJ bass drum ...now that would be super rare

I have yet to find a really clean complete vivid red sparkler

I have four RS stencils well really three Japanese and one Roxy from Germany

But they all have this or that going on fade, blotch, splits, "frankenmade" , ect ect

I have a Pearl (embossed on hardware no actual badges) 22" bass and mounted tom in a nice vivid ruby red but no snare drums or floor toms that are quite the same shade of red

Hello Rims n Skins sounds like a snare I would be interested in if we can make the numbers work ..Let me know man ^5's

Hey fishwaltz good to see you guy

Now when you say gold sparkle you do mean gold not orange?

I noticed some folks use gold to describe orange sparkle

My first kit was a four piece orange sparkle Norma brand

I wish I had not decided to take the wraps off way back when

and then I eventually lost track of them

I found one recently in really nice shape, identical to mine,

save for it having a 22" inch bass where mine was a 20"

I would likely have bought them, but first of all the guy wanted a good amount for them as he had all sorts of upgraded hardware with cymbals and secondly I already have three orange sparkle stencils a Ralston stage band style

a U.S. Mercury w/double mounted toms on rail

and my nicest is a Star but the floor tom is an adopted no badge orphan
