Black Jack Kits

Loading...

Hi everyone. This is my first post ever, just joined the forum 1/2 hour ago. I have an old Black Jack set. I am the original owner. My grandfather bought it for me in 1974. It is a 4 piece red sparkle, which seems to be the most common according to this site. I do recall one kid in my area having a blue sparkle. I wonder if those were the only colors they made? Anyway, I am working on resurrecting the old set, so any pointers you can think of will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

PS I will post up some current pictures of the set soon. I also may be able to find some "vintage" photos of me playing it back in the 70's.

Hello OldSchool,

Nice little blue sparkle Black Jack kit

The interesting thing about them

is I have a black diamond pearl "Ideal" kit that are identical

save for the cymbal arm bracket

same lugs, same rail,(mine has plastic hoops not sure about yours)

Now the thing about that is, I identified the origin of my kit

as being a lower end Hoshino made kit

Unlike my own "Black Jack" kit (same identical badges)

( also wrapped in black diamond pearl)

The lugs, shells, and hardware on those drums are definitely Star according to Raif

I also have a partial orange sparkle"Black Jack kit just the bass and two 12" toms

these drums again, are identical to my Star made Black Jacks (pictured )

Either this is one of those head scratching situations

where two separate factories each put out a run of Black Jack badged drums

which are save for the badges, completely different kits in terms of origin

Or maybe somewhere along the road with your drums

a previous owner attached some Black Jack badges on an unbadged Hoshino made kit ???

I dunno but it does make me wonder ..Good Luck with them

Hello surf Somehow I got balled up with reading this thread

I am only now realizing that Oldschool's original posts, about his blue sparkle kit are quite old and your comments sort of refreshed an old thread.

one on which, I myself have previously commented LOL ...sorry about that guys

They definitely made the Black Jacks in a variety of colors

I know for sure they include blue, red, and orange sparkle , black diamond pearl, and white marine pearl ,

and most likely many other colors as well

From Kenwood

vyacheslav howdyThose blue onyx Black Jacks must be a great little kitPost a pic of them if you can ..Cool1

Howdy Back!

I have a Blue Onyx Black Jack kit. Same tom holder as yours, Kenny, only it's a single rack tom kit. 12/14/20. These aren't great pictures, but should give you a taste. By the way, this recent Gold Agate Star Kit I picked up (Almost done with it-just lacquering the hoops now and I'm done) has the same exact "Star" badge as the "Black Jack". Same font, same size. Everything about this kits (save the tom mount) is identical, so I definitely think they were Star made.
