Very interesting!! How common are these timpani drums?

More than interesting that I've never seen Amati timpanies too... :D

I found this thread a little later but I have to comment on it:

To Gilnar: I have read lot of your posts here on VTF and I have to admit that you have knowledge about history and equipment of Amati drums. Therefore I can not understand how you could forget that the last type of Amati drums had hex tuning rods. It was the type with deeper toms.

Four or five years ago I have contacted some people in Amati-Denak in Kraslice, CZ and I managed to get in touch with storekeepers who sold me new old stock of AMATI hex drum key. I then sold them out on ebay or direct to fellow collectors and IMO there´s one of them on the picture Grantro posted here.

Btw. there are all three types of Amati keys in my colllection http://www.drumkeys.eu/galerie.php and there´s also one rarity here – Amati drum key without logo. Unfortunately, pictures are not good, I have to get a new one with better detail of the hole.

To Dule, Father-42 and Grantro: As far as I know Amati never made timpani

To Grantro: Hi Rod, how are you? Few days ago I bought very rare and interesting SONOR key, which is something like transition type. The shape is the same as keys from 50´s with writing letters, but this key has logo from beginning 60´s – two percussion mallets.

Any new keys in your collection?

Hey, Arno, well met!

All I know about Amati drums are simply deductions based from quantity of certain types of drums and from their appearance in photos from various eras. I've so far encountered only ONE Amati drum with a time-stamp, so basically all I know are assumptions with many blank spots.

I've encountered few Amatis with hex rods, but I always thought they were after-market, because I've never found a hex key. Well, live and learn. If only I could find some Amati catalogues... but judging from how people treat their DRUMS, I fear they might be all lost.

I'm glad you joined in here! Thanks for another piece of history!

Hi guys, I just gave a re-birth to this lovely "Amati" orange gloss kit which is probably of 2nd or 3rd generation and made of 6ply beech... I've got it in rarely ideal condition and it had only 2 owners before me. It was left in the attic for a decade or so and now the shells are really hard and in good condition. I worked on the edges since it was the worst part of the shells that survived since 1970s or early 1980s... I did some sanding on the inside of shells and then oiled them (black coloured linseed oil, 100 % eco). I bought new Evans (Emad kick & EC tom) skins and it sounds f***ing amazing! I am really happy BUT I have still a few more things missing to be the happiest man on Earth. Here's what I'm looking for: 1 (one) rectangular tuning key, original, made by Amati (Probably really rare item); 18 (eighteen) rectangular tension rods, originaly made by Amati; 3 (three metal hoops): 12"; 13" (both with 6 holes) and 16" (w/ 8 holes) metal hoops to use them on the bottom side. If any of You have any of the necessary items please let me know and we will sort out a fair deal. My e-mail address: info@spatzbeatz.lv Cheerz! Spatz Beatz

Hy guys!

Great thread by the way:-)

I had a few AMATI Sets runnig through my hands, and all i can say is that this is a very underrated company!

Top Hardware on the shells, great type of wood the used...doesnt matter if 60s or 70´s -80´s Sets.

Very cool design on all the stuff they did, and the best is that the sound fantastic. You can buy a Sonor Champion or Phonic for a lot of money-but you get the same quality of sound out of an old AMATi Set:-)!

I love them...working on a another two sets at the moment...will soon post some pics:-)

regards and best wishes to Gilnar and Dule

Well Spartzbeatz

I think it is better to look for another set for parts, and look it locally

All the things you need can be a heavy package.Amati made die cast lugs and 18 pieces and hoops can have cost on shipping, unless you find them in your country

I can't remember now,are those hoops like Sonor type, curved to inside of head?

Dule

Or do you mean the blue sparkle one with the old style lug?

Why you are asking?
