Never saw an Amati hex key. Or an original hex tuning rod, for that matter.

Got any pictures? Almost complete lack of catalogues and reluctance of Kraslice factory to share ANY information makes Amati a somewhat mysterious manfufacturer. From time to time, stuff I never knew they made pops up...

BTW, their square key was actually a rectangle, it fit only their original rectangular t-rods...

Great pics and great info Grantro, but as Gilnar,I have never seen hex tension rods on Amati drums.Amati in that time made lot of brass instruments, trumpets, saxophones, and other things.Could this hex key may be from concert timpani?Or for some other instruments from their production?

Quite possible...I`m not well educated on Amati drums, but, could the hex key be for tightening or loosening the tom mounts?

Cheers

That's not likely. All the hardware on amati drums (maybe save for the bass drum beater tips) was equipped either with wingscrews or with slotted/rectangular rods - depending on the age.

But maybe I just missed something. I saw this photo from a Polish guy, his Amati drums had absolutely unfamiliar tom mounts, yet he insisted that they're original. I've never saw them before or after that, but what do I know.

Great thanks for amazing info, Grantro... also never seen hex t-rods on Amati...

I think that Dule's words about timpani are maybe right.

Cheers,

George.
