Thanks :D

I am going to un-clamp the bass drum today sometime.

Wish me luck.

The FT is going to stay clamped until tomorrow at least.

I have my bd hoops all sanded and taped off ready for paint.

If it warms up today I'll get them sprayed with a nice coat of gloss black.

I have the inlays for them ready to go.

I think I have all the hardware for everything ready as well. Guitar Dude Man

The only thing I don't have are the heads.

Just a quick test on the 12" that is done tells me that I am going to have an issue with the heads fitting.

Before I have to trim the wrap down enough to allow a head all the way down I am going to try the Aquarian American Vintage heads on them and see how that works.

I put one on top of the snare and it was tight.

It fit and the drum sounds great but the hoop is touching the wrap for sure.

If I have to trim the wrap then I just have to trim the wrap. DOH

Ya Mon! Looking good! Cool1

And don't worry about trim-back. I had to do it to a set of Glass sparkle wrap club dates I refinished for my grandson. Heads went on easy, no wood showing under head rims and the drums look and sound fine.

Yeah,

You know it looks like I will need to trim the wrap back almost 3/4 of an inch from the peak of the bearing edge.

Does that sound about right?

I'm measuring a Remo head from the underside of the batter surface to the bottom of the metal bead.

I am assuming that I will need to trim the wrap back for just about the whole depth of the head.

Right? Help2

Thanks Gerald. :D

The seam repair was the easy part.

The hard part is going to be getting some heads to fit on these oversize shells and this thick ass wrap. LoLoLoLo

Come on guys.

No body has ever trimmed a wrap down from the edge before?

I guess how far you trim it depends on what heads you choose.

There seems to be a slight variance between head makers.

An 1/8th of an inch could be a huge mistake.

I measured my Remos and marked the wrap but I'm afraid to get started.

I ordered some Aquarian American Vintage heads.

I am going to try them before I go crazy cutting.

Once you start cutting you're done.

It will either work or you're stripping and re-wrapping. LoLoLoLo

I've never tried trimming the wrap. I do have a snare drum that has a veneer on it and the guy I bought it from put a wrap over it. Of course a regular Remo head wouldn't fit but I did manage to get an Aquarian American Vintage head on it by useing some force. I tuned up ok and sounds great. On the snare side I had to cut some splits in the metal ring of the head to get it to go on. I don't think I want to have to ever try changing the heads though. I think trying to trim the wrap correctly you need some type of special tool. If the Aquarian heads don't work for you I suggest you call Precision and get some advice from the experts. Take your time and be careful what you decide to try to do. You got a fantastic kit there.

mac - I had Precision cut back the wrap on those green club dates. Gerald is absolutely correct, if that's a glass wrap you're working with, Precision uses -special tools- to cut that stuff. Better to have the pro's do it than to screw up expensive wrap trying to do it yourself with the wrong tools. Call Precision and get a quote. It was cheap to do per drum. Look at the photo I posted for you, they did a nice clean job of it and regular production heads go on and tune up easily.

Call Precision. Have it done right!
