Those are great looking drums! All of them. That three musketeer snare trilogy is awesome.

Just picked up this late 60s Teardop era snare today. Unoriginal pieces and parts... Throw off, butt end... Rims? Tension rods? The damper is there... It's very dirty, but looks like it will clean up very nicely. Who loves Red Strata?

Hello OddBall

So sorry for this very late response

I did not see your post initially and then sort of lost track of this thread entirely

The condition of the Sonor kit was so poor I just set them aside

the entire wrap and half the hardware was missing on the mounted tom

the champagne sparkle wraps on the other two is checked and discolored

the bass drum has significant inner ply delamination and missing rods and claws for the one side

the floor tom is by far in the best condition missing only the resonant hoop and rods

Recently I found a very solid original condition mounted tom and a super nice snare

and in spite of the poor condition of the original three drums I bought them both

I could live with the worn and discolored wrap

but the inner ply issues on the bass drum is something that is beyond my ability to correct

that aside, I started cleaning them up the pics show the bass and floor tom together with its new found cousin

and a seller's pic of the snare (same badges all around)

I had forgotten this thread too.

There is a thread on this site where a BD with the same damage but further along was done step by step and it turned out very nice. I`ll see if I can find it. Forget who did it though.

I love the improvising and the kit don`t look bad. We`ll find that thread and in time you could still get a full drop kit together, but for now, at least you can play it.

Oh my god, just noticed, you are one of the very very dying to find one ever few,....that has a complete strainer with plastic cap. That it`self is worth a fortune to some.

Hello again OddBall

Wow!! I have had some instant message exchanges that were less timely than your response to me here

That's great pal Thanks

So I see you noticed the single tension hardware hehe

It was actually more to have the bass drum appear more complete for a picture

than it was to play them ...but now you have me thinking ...I would love to fix the wood on the bass and love them just as they are
