Very sorry for your loss...

I'm a newbie here and not an expert, but I would say the guys in the know here will want to see pictures of the set to identify things like condition, age, desirability, model etc. Without pictures it would be very hard to help you. Also do you know when he bought them and were they new when he got them and so forth. Any information you have would help.

Wow, tough way to need information about some drums. So sorry you have to deal with this.

As stated, pictures are best way to give us information. It can be a bit of a challenge to post them here. If you need help, you can drop me an email and I will try to help.

Guessing you also have the hardware and cymbals. Selling as a full set or dividing them up is also part of the decision.

Perhaps one of the members closer to you can check them in person. Without posting a full address, maybe mention a nearby location to meet and go back to your location for an in person check. I am in the Seattle area (bit too far...), and a big Rogers fan and restorer, as are others here on the forum.

I do not recommend you have anything to do with Guitar Center or Sam Ash at this point. Perhaps give a call to Professional Drums Shop in the LA area for their recommendations on how to proceed as well.

Catherine, Sorry to hear about your brother. I can second the recommendation about the Professional Drum Shop in Los Angeles. I have dealt with them since the 1980's as I visit my family in California. If its possible, the best thing to do is put the drums in your car and show them to Stan and the folks in person. They will be able to tell you exactly what you have, how much they are worth, and make recommendations. I don't know whether they do consignment or not but you won't find a nicer or more honest staff. They are very highly regarded in the drum community. Good luck.

I wish you condolences on your loss. This is a good bunch of drummers on this board who are always willing to offer advice. There's also a LOT of vintage drum knowledge here. Probably the most knowledge you can find on the 'Net.

It's all abut condition, to be honest. If your brother kept the drums original and in good condition, that's very important. Extra drill holes and other modifications always devalue a set of vintage drums, although lots of us regularly gig "player's sets," that have been changed, but still look and play just fine. In all honesty, it's hard to find a vintage drumset that hasn't been altered in some way, or one that hasn't been used hard over the years.
