Glenn! Congratulations on getting your RKs put together! They look nice! Just need to leave the 13 in the sun a few days and maybe let a few cigars burn around it to age it a little. :p

Hi Lynn thanks! I do plan the fool around with some wrap scraps left over to see if we can give it the aged look. Cigar smoke was one of the suggestions!! Some luthiers have tried it with good results. Never know!! :)
Take care buddy!

HAHA!!! I was really half-joking, but I could see it working. I hear nicotine/smoke really yellows WMP wrap, and cigars are full of both. Let me know what you decide to try and if it works. Regardless, the kit looks great! Lots of mojo!

But wait there's more~! Coffee Break2
Just want to thank VDF member Jim in Ohio for the freebie 15" WMP Slingy shell. Cool1 Your a good guy Jim can't thank you enough Sir!
After I get the shell glued up and cleaned a bit it'll be another floor tom. I'm doing a wood hoop and claws on the bottom, metal hoop and clips (single flange hopefully) on top. I have 16 small BT lugs I'm going to use and I'll pickup some floor tom legs or a cradle along the way. Shell is mahogany interior and looks like a mid to later 50's. It's need some love but very worthy of the effort. ;)
Glenn - Finally! They look great and I'm sure they sound every bit as good as they look. Don't worry about the mis-matched wrap on the tom. It only adds to the visual mojo of the kit. It's all about sound and you can't do a whole lot better than RK's for quality sound. Tune them in intervals of fourths! The toms will sing...
Congrats! I love it just like it is!

Hi John~! Thanks very much it's been a fun project. Overall I'm very happy with them and your right they sound great too. I've been having a blast playing them. Than you again for your help and guidance.
Hey, weren't you the one that made me take a photo behind my SBP pre-serial kit? Well, it's -your turn- buddy! Let's see a shot of you sitting behind the RK's! Have one of the boys play photographer.
What's good for the goose, is good for the gander! lol
John
Ha LOL yes it was me. I'll have one of them take a pic and I'll post it here. :)
Glenn,
The kit looks great!
Probably wont work with drums, but when one is replacing the grill cloth on a vintage amp with new stuff, you can soak the new cloth overnight in coffee or strong tea. :)
Thanks Stephen.
That's a good tip to know on the grill cloth. I'll pass that along to my son. He mainly builds and restores guitars but does a few amps every so often as well. I'm sure he'd be very interested to know. :)
