Thanks Jeff. I just happen to look at page 1 and when I started this mess and saw it was a year today. LOL. Yep seems I'm back in this one pretty deep again with the add on's. The Rogers kit is waiting in the wings when these are done.

I just got the box with the 20" x 16" tom shell and a few other goodies. I was also able to score a set of 20" single flange hoops for it too. Boy this thing is HUGE. It's a beautiful shell that's for sure. Just wanted to post a pic fresh out of the box. The shell had WMP wrap which is long gone but still see some tucked into the factory seam. Very cool shell~! It has 9 lug holes on each side for 18 total. There's a few extra holes but no big deal to me. Looks like it was used as a bass drum for a bit. Those will get filled with some mahogany plugs I have. Not sure if it'll get lacquer paint (yellowed white) or wrapped.

Have a couple of Coke machines that I have been chasing parts for 12 yrs, still haven't found some missing bits. All part of the fun.

Looking at it I see the consolette holes on yours are the same as mine, below the holes for the muffler. I also have to the left of the where the lug would go two holes spaced 3" 1/2. 90 degree linear from the rim. Yours?

Congrats, great score! I can tell you a 20x16 bass will send sonic booms well into next week. Have a gee-tar player friend coming by for a visit so, despite unfinished state put the kit back together. Getting pretty good at pulling and reinstalling hardware. Anyone hiring? :-)

Thanks, yes a year is not too bad. I've chased old car parts for 6-7 years. Hey those Coke machines sound pretty cool. Yes I bet they can be very hard to find.

I'll take a closer look tomorrow at the extra holes. And try to figure what was there. And the spacing.

Creighton I had some time to look at the shell today. 8 extra holes. 2 sets 4.5" apart for consolettes I guess. And 3 sets of holes 3.5" maybe for cymbal holders? 2 of the holes were used with different hardware configurations over the years to avoid more extra holes.

Here's a picture of the area missing the outer ply from wrap removal. Roughly 2.5"x10" and also a small 1"x3" patch by the bearing edge. Not too bad and those and the holes are the only repairs it needs. Those areas will get the veneer patches.

Also a pic of the factory seam with what's left of the WMP wrap. Few small chips on that seam edge to fix there. Overall pretty excited to have this thing. This shell will more than likely get painted a yellow/white as it'll sit with the rest of my mellowed WMP RK's. I might persue the translucent white lacquer idea again that failed on my 13". I have a good idea what went wrong there. And will spend a lot more time on test panels before I start.

Had time this week to start the repairs on the 20" floor tom shell. 8 mahogany plugs for the extra holes. And 2 strips of veneer to repair the outer ply when the wrap was removed long long ago. We used holly veneer as my son Dan had some on hand. Seeing how the shell is getting painted solid white then tinted to yellow slightly we went with it. I'll get back on Sat to do some light filler work then start sanding the shell. Then the prep the shell for finishing. It'll be a week or so before I can spray the shell he has a lot of finish work to do. But again I need to thank my son Dan for his time, tools, materials and using the shop. There's 1 small area by the bearing edge we had to veneer too. That's glued up and clamped to dry overnight. No pics of that yet sorry.

Thanks Creighton! Yep I'm very lucky and he's right around the corner too. He's a good kid and makes some beautiful guitars too.

I was able to save some small chips of the outer ply that ws removed. I will use those to patch the small chips/nicks at the factory wrap seam. Still lots of prep work to do.

Creighton if you need any mahogany plugs for your shells let me know. I'll make some and send them to you. Just tell me the sizes and how many of each. This is a sheet of some old growth it's .218" thick and leaves a smidge out of the shell for blending. Pretty good for RK shells.
