From ardrummer

I decided to rewrap the drums. When I got the old wrap off I noticed the drums are a drak wood...is this mohogany? I thought they were maple Poplar maple.

Most wrapped drums were maple/poplar/mahogany. The open grain of the mahogany worked better with the glue. They did make some maple/poplar/maple too. Obviously the stained and painted drums had that layup but wrapped drums sometimes are that layup as well.

It's kind of a pet peeve of mine that people constantly refer to the clear interior 3 ply drums as "Maple Ludwigs" when many have mahogany content and all of them have the fat poplar center ply.

Thanks for the info. I knew it didn't look like maple :)

So this mahogany is African mahogany correct?

I understand why you would think that. My reasoning is there was some major seam separation issues on each tom...floor tom being the worst. And some scratches and dings. Also, I don't have a matching kick drum and don't have the money to get a 3 ply red sparkle kick. I am going to get a USA rocker bass drum and recover it along with the other drums. I don't plan on selling these and want them to look mint.

I got an 80's Rocker kick drum and covered them all to match. These drums sounds great! Here is a demo[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5blsTaALm1c"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5blsTaALm1c[/ame]

Toms are 12x8, 14x10 & 16x16 and the kick is 22x14"

2 yards is what you need for a standard 5 piece kit. See the link in my post above for the how to.
