New gretsch project. Need help identifying!

So I recently picked up a pretty beat up set of 70's gretsch drums. Its a 3 piece kit (haven't measured the sizes yet). Seems to be a walnut wrap. I'm going to bring these back to life over the next few months hopefully. Unsure of what line of gretsch these are however...All i know is 70's because of the badge. Any help/comments would be greatly appreciated!

Nice kit and for $85 a screaming good deal too. Are you going to keep the original finish and clean it up or redo? Hopefully some of the Gretsch guys can chime in for you. Welcome to the forum and post pics along the way.

They were a hell of a deal indeed. I'm probably going to put new wraps on them as the current ones are pretty beat up.

Yeah, I'm not sure how soon I wan't to work on these, so they may be left as is for a while...However, eventually I'd like to get a nice sparkle wrap, as they are pretty beatup, and were not cared for much by the previous owner.

That's going to be one sweet sounding set of drums! It's a crime to wrap them! Those drums just need to be stripped, sanded, filled, stained, and sealed. It'll look like new and stay true to the original natural wood finish.

Please consider restoring them rather than altering them.

Great score! @ $85 per kit, I'll buy em all day long and twice on Sunday!

Purdie,

This set is already a walnut wrap I believe as I can see the seams on all of the drums. If they were natural there's no way I would wrap them. I own a set of yamaha club customs in natural, and they are VERY OPEN sounding. I'm looking forward to having the wraps/diecast hoops to have that more focused "great gretsch sound"

Wiesty - I think all you're seeing is the seam on the shell, that looks like wood to me! If that's a wrap on there, the photos are really deceptive to the eye.

Here is a better picture of the seam on the 16x16. Maybe thats just the panels, I thought it was the wrap...But I'm a noob so!
