Mahogany veneer job

Jeff - What is the owner doing with the BD hoops? Did you make mahogany strips for the hoop inlay? I left the hoops natural on the kit you veneered for me. It looks great with the natural maple hoops against the dark mahogany.John

No hoops came with the kit and I was not told to make any inlay for it. So I dont know what he is doing. Someday we will find out though I bet.

Top-notch work as always, Jeff! Question for you. I noticed you wrapped the shells with veneer sheets that were taller than the shells. Did you re-cut the bearing edge to fit the veneer to the shell or did you trim the veneer and follow the original bearing edge profile? Any elaboration on your process/tools used would be greatly appreciated. I'm still thinking about attempting a job like this myself on some 1950's WFL shells that I have.

Thanks Aaron, I cut the veneer 2" wider than the shell. That way I have some wiggle room. I then trim the veneer with a razor blade right at the very bottom of the edge profile, then kinda blend the edge of the veneer to the shell by sanding it.

Those hoops are the Tama Accutune variety.. They are a moulded composite material and claw free, screws attach direct to the hoop.. Hence no inlay...
