Ludwigs 1969-70 4500$$ Or Best Offer

O-Lugs,

Thanks for the explanation. I really didn't notice that the cymbal package was included when estimating the value. That probably adds another $1000. I still think that $4500 will be hard to realize without parting them out, and NOBODY want to see that happen to matched vintage drums EVER!

I also have four other toms 10" 165757812" 1657631 i believe are 1978 and 13" 1612916, 14" 1612833 I believe are late 1978 not in pristine condition but very manageable still very silver in their sparkle with original stands pic's on their way. They just don't look as good with the other kit.

You may be right. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the right person to get them and for everyone involved to benefit. This is "one of those" drum packages that appears only very rarely.

I don't think parting them out is an option -at least for this sale. I can only hope the next owner keeps them all together and in as good condition.

Yes. This is an example of the 3-ply shells that were not tucked into the scarf joint the way they had been doing previously. My 1969 Jazzette kit's shells also bear this out. So, by deductive reasoning, I would have to say that Ludwig stopped tucking the wrap inside sometime in 1968. That's also when they switched to the large rotary tone control knob, too.

I can't really say what the value of those concert toms would be. It is nominal. However, having said that, just watch for the day to come when concert toms become fashionable again! :2Cents:

FYI The seam lifting on that era of drums isn't unusual due to the fact that Ludwig had to switch their glue to a more environmentally-friendly variety at that time and the result was that the glue shrunk and pulled the wrap with it and caused the seams to lift. They can be re-glued, but it would probably be a waste of time -at this point in time.

Again, though, everything is complete and nice and could be cleaned up and restored to very nice examples of what kind of trend there was in drumming at that time. Trust me, everything that's ugly today, will be beautiful again someday! :)

If you only new just how hard this is to sell these, this is the year I was born and the month and 6 days off the day I was born. that is why if they sell they will go for a high price to somebody who will have paid enough to keep them pristine. Not a bad theory any how. I agree lets hope it all works out I did put them on e-bay today for 5000 or make a offer. If nothing else this is a heck of a way to appraise this kit. You all have helped tremendously wish me and the drums luck. damn they are sweet!!!!!
