Ludwig silver spakle a ginger ale thing??

Hello drum folk

I have an ongoing club date project

I have a nice 65 silver sparkle club date kit

with a 14x14 floor tom that has a large damaged section of wrap toward the back of the drum on either side of the scarf joint

The whole kit has the ginger ale effect to varied degrees

and the floor tom wrap is otherwise great save for the damage

If I re-wrap in new silver sparkle the floor tom will be mis-matched

with the other three

I was thinking maybe to replace the damaged section

with a piece of donor wrap a little closer to the moderate ginger shade of the rest

I could have it recovered completely but the snag is the ginger ale

does anyone think re-wrapping in some shade of champagne sparkle would work?...or the patch I just mentioned ? or go with the new silver?

I am frozen with indecision LOL ...HELP!!!

I just tried some shots to show the contrast between the new silver sample

and the vintage wrap with ginger effect

The bass drum to a lessor degree the 12 with the most

if the only problem with bass and high tom is fade, no way would I recover, floor tom is your problem, even if you patch it, it will still not match. I would be looking for floor that is closer in fade, and move your along.

Hello burgundy

Oh heck no I like the other three drums just fine as they are

like you, I would have never considered re-wrapping them

but I was hoping to work with what I have

Maybe someone knows of a shade of champagne sparkle that would mimic the ginger more than new silver?

I don't know but I hope that someone does?

I would re-wrap the floor tom and use it while you wait for a better one to show up.

Thank you!

Her are some of my SS Ludwig's. The floor and snare are new wrap, the tom and bass are 1980. You would not really notice under stage lights. New is definately a little brighter but not to noticeable. The layman wouldn't know.

Kenwood- Beautiful drums! If it were me, I'd just spin the damaged area to the back and not worry about it. From where anybody else can see, they look great and they match. At the most, I might try patching the isolated area but again, I'd put it to the back where no one would see it anyway. Any recover is a slippery slope to match. Vintage = Old. And sometimes that's what you get...including the mojo. Enjoy those bad boys.

Just hit with whiter shade of pale

Could help my self sorry. Of yellow I mean ,......

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Great advice here, I like this better than my approach.
