WEEKEND UPDATE:

All the Rogers BDP drums have now been hit with Novus 2, after the 400/600/1500 wetsandings. I'm loving the way they are turning out!

I plan on doing the Novus 1 with all the hardware on, so, since some of the 12x20 donor hardware is under the Christmas tree (nothing better than picking out your own presents!), this may be the last update for a while.

Regards

Great work John. Do you think/feel starting with a higher grade would net the same results? Like 800 or 1000? Or was the 400 needed for tooth to get the crap layer off?

Amazing! I can't wait to see the final pictures with the kit all setup. Again, we're so glad you did not make this a re-wrap.

I would have been at it a lot longer if I had started with 800. I stopped the 400 when I decided I had cleaned it up 'enough', without worrying too much about damaging the wrap, especially on the bass. Probably spent an hour on the 12 with 400, three hours on the kick, without pressing in too much. The 600 grit was still getting a bit of the smoke out.

For these drums in the condition they were, 400 was the right start; I certainly would think a kit with less buildup would start fine with 600 or 800.
