a little help deciding on a Ludwig ... please

Loading...

been a while my dear friends

I am about to make a purchase and am torn between two kits

1963 pre serial # badge blue sparkle Ludwig all original and nearly mint ... date stamped in all the shells ... just beautiful

22,13,16

1966 Ludwig silver sparkle all original also in amazing condition

22,13,16

both right around the same price

I'd love some help deciding on which one to get

I love everything about the '63 ... just not completely in love with blue

I wish the '66 was earlier but I absolutely love the color ...

plus the '63 ... if I am nit picky ... is in slightly better condition

thoughts ?

any are appreciated

thanks gents

Generally speaking pre Beatle-Boom drums were built to a bit higher standards (they weren't in such a hurry) so that might give the edge to the 63's but there are exceptions (perfectly built 64-67 drums and not quite perfect pre 64 drums) so that's not definitive...just additional food for thought.

Sounds like a tough, but ultimately pleasant, decision to have to make.

I already have a beautiful Blue Sparkle Ludwig set but not a silver sparkle so I'd probably lean towards the Silver set if it were me.

Perhaps someone will correct me, but Ringo's kit would have been a '63 too, so that would make me lean towards the blue sparkle knowing that it was basically the sibling to his kit. And to me blue sparkle is Ludwig; and if the condition was better for the same price I would have to choose the blue sparkle.

There's not a whole lot of differences between the two sets? What's your favorite color, silver or blue?

Silver is what I was originally looking for but was turned on by the '63 pre serial number kit

what would be the differences in them outside of obvious things like the later rail consolette on the '66 kit ?

thank you so much for chiming in ... I really appreciate it
