Can you explain to me how you look at the drum and what details make you think it looks like a WFL? Tomorrow I will try to take some better pics and post them here.

there are a few things ,the shell first off, the mahogany Interior, the re rings and the shape of them also the red stamped date! if i's not wfl then it's ludwig!

When I was going through the forum catalogs I found the Buddy Rich classics in 1948-1949 with no clamp on legs or other holes. Plus it said comes in your choice of pearl! Didn't see any other kits like that that came in WMP. Would this make sense?

This can get confusing to the novice but up until the late sixties you could get bass drums with clamp on spurs from all the major drum companies!

I am basically going to need an expert to be able to see it in person and tell me then?

Unfortunetly the scans you looked at are very vague it doesn't show all the drums in the catalog! but it could be a whole slew of different drum kits not just the buddy rich set you'll never be able to place it with any kit, it could of been a marching or concert bass drum, the marching bass drum back then didn't have mounting hooks on them to determine it is a marching drum, the straps were clipped onto the tension rods! did any other parts come with this drum?? also what condition is the wrap in?

Nothing else came with this piece. Here is a pic of the other side of the shell. the wrap is very yellowed and only about half there.

EC, what info that Vintagemore2000 has given you needs to be verified? I think he's "spot on the nose" given the photographic evidence you've given us.

Why is it WFL? WFL, standing for "William F. Ludwig", IS Ludwig prior to around '58 or '59. As stated before around 1960 you could get drums that commonly have hoop-mounted spurs. In fact I remember an early 60s Ludwig set that had hoop-mounted spurs.

The lug outlines on the entire drum is the shape of Ludwig classic lugs. The date inside, in red lettering, appears to be 1954.

The Badge which you pictured looks like an upside-down keystone badge with the top of it torn off.

The mahogany interior shell, unpainted, with wider(than 60s and 70s model Ludwig) maple(?) reinforcement rings on it, appears to be a mid-50s era. More of those older drums had no mounted spurs. The hoop mounted spurs are more common on the older drums. In fact Walberg and Auge produced the accesory hardware for most of the major drum makers at the time, and the only proprietary hardware was the lug shape. Later, in the 60s, they would all start to use proprietary Spurs, T-s and Claws, rail or post mounts, etc..

You're welcome.. ;)
