They didn't even line up the BB wrap straight on mine - I'll post pix soon.
Ludwig Butcher Block finish
70s Ludwig Standard Aqua Mist
60s Ludwig Champagne Sparkle Downbeat
and a whole bunch of snares and hardware
Thanks man. You can never go wrong with a Black beauty, Supraphonic or Acrolites. That's pretty much the tri-fecta for me and what I play 99% of the time.
You have some great kits as well!
That B/B of mine is a mixture of what I think was a Octo-Plus.
24/8/10/13/15/ and 20! In the pic is the 24/15/20.
They are all concert toms... but I love em! I'm wanting a 22/13/16 in B/B. Anybody got one for sale?
Randy,I wanted to tell you that you have great taste in snares! My favorite snare is my 1979 Black Beauty with a pointy B/O badge(6.5" x 14") that I purchased new, followed by my 1980 Supra (6.5" x 14") with a rounded corner B/O badge.I'm just getting into the Paiste 2002 series cymbals. I have used Avedis Zildjian for over 40 years, so this is an interesting change for me.One of my favorite kits to play is my 7 piece 1981/2 Ludwig Natural Maple B/O badged Modular kit, with a 22" virgin kick (with four spurs), 16", 14", 13", 12" and 10" power toms. In total, I have 7 vintage Ludwig kits that range from 1966 five piece 20" kick, 16", 13", 12" toms, 1967 three piece, 20" kick, 16" 13" toms, 1970 BB kit 24" kick, 18"" 13", 13" toms, as per the photos, 1975 White Cortex (Octa Plus) with twin 22" kicks, 1979 Mahogany 5 piece, 24" kick, 16", 14" and 13" toms, and a 1980 White Cortex 6 piece, 22" kick, 18", 16", 14", 13", 12" toms. I have Ludwig fever! Keep on Pl
I would be willing to trade one of my 13" BB 1970 (no serial number B/O badged) toms for a 12" or 14" in real nice condition, as long as it was a 1970 model with a muffler.
On a side note, I'm looking for a Ludwig Cortex White 10" concert tom for my Octa Plus kit, as mine is missing. My kit is from 1975 with the 3 ply shells, re-rings and a granitone interior. My kit is in very minty condition and I would like to buy a tom in the same condition. Thanks.

I emailed him, but received no answer. Can anyone in the LA area try to touch base with him on my behalf. My phone number is 204-229-8408, if contact can be made. I`m willing to pay the $100 for the toms stands and case if they are in decent shape plus shipping to either Neche, ND (about a 5 hour round trip from my home) or directly to me here in Winnipeg, MB. I know the 12`tom has a cracked wrap, but that`s not an issue as long as the drum is sound.
Thanks,
Barry

I have a set. They have numbers. They were made in Chicago right before they moved the factory. Its a five piece with a matching snare. They are in excellent shape. I dont know if they are worth anything but I will never part with them. My grandparents bought them for me. The reason I picked the color was because I am a Alan Dawson fan, and they were different. They have the olive rounded badges.
I've always like the butcher block finish, too. I remember seeing my first set of these when I was in high school. I tried to convince my dad to trade-in his
Gretsch champaign sparkle set for a set of these. Keep in mind, this is 35= yrs ago, before all this drum stuff became "collectable". This wrap will be more
popular in the future, I predict. These things are cyclical in nature, and
will eentually be more sought-after.
I love the BB Finish!
I have been looking for one of these for a few years now. My first set was a Huge 80s Super Classic Ludwig that I sold years back. I have been playing a 6 piece Remo masteredge for about ten years as my main set and a little taye jazz set up for smaller gigs.
I started in a new band recently and I wanted a classic rock sound and I had to go Ludwig. 24BD and 13,14,and 16 toms. Also came with a textured Acrolite. It needs a little love, some new heads and a few adjustments. I can not wait to tune it up and play it!

I must be gettin' old, because I used to slag all over the BB finish, and now that I am older, I find that I actually LIKE it and wouldn't mine owning a BB kit.
Having said that, BB, like all Cortex finishes, were vertical-grade melamine laminate aka Formica & WilsonArt. Unless they decided to reissue this woodgrain, the only way to reproduce it would be a custom-printed wrap done from a scan.
