Butcher Block gets derided and abused a lot among drum collectors, but it was popular in the 70's. I considered a set of them at one point.
Ludwig Butcher Block finish
Not a finish I would choose given all the other wonderful sparkles and pearls but a nice clean 3 ply Ludwig still = a nice 3 ply ludwig.

I have this bass drum and it ROCKS!!!!band2
But I have to find a 13" tom and a 16" floor tom... anybody can help me?!?!?! :D
The several cortex kits I have played have been really great sounding, and I like somewhat the butcher block pattern, though prefer natural wood far more.
I detect a slight difference in tone that is a little more direct and I suspect that the extra mass and hardness of the cortex makes for a slightly different sound than sparkle and pearl wraps.
What factory inlays came on BB BD hoops?
thanks
It does kinda make you want to put your elbows up and LEAN on it and order a coke though doesn't it?
I love the the Butcher Block Cortex.
Here is a kit on CL in Atlanta good deal on them concert tom's and all. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/msg/2381622766.html
