'Smuggler's Blues" by Glen Frey. Man! I had to sit and think about that one for A WHILE, but I love a good challenge.
Yard Sale Slingerland kit!

Laughing H
So a friend of mine has been talking to the guy selling this kit, says he has been pushing real hard. Apparently there are only badges on the snare and the bass drum, and the insides are painted pink on the rack toms. I do want to throw my hat in the ring on this kit but those two facts really make me gun shy. Is there anyone out there that could shed some better light on these two things. Especially the badge issue, I am already pretty reserved that the pink paint is not original.

I believe that it was not uncommon for badge-less toms during this time frame.
Yes, the badges are normal for that era. The pink paint is NOT original...there's no way Slingerland would have done that.
I've seen 2 similar sets to this one, only in Blue Agate, sell on ebay for around $1200. It's a strange size combo that doesn't really appeal to the bop kit market. However, the bass drum by itself is worth a good amount of money IF someone has a 12 and 14 in that finish, but the concert toms just aren't very desirable. But I do agree with Olugs that concert toms will one day return to the limelight!
Thanks,
Bill
You guys are right. It's hard for me to believe someone would go through the trouble, but apparently they did paint them pink, or half pink anyway.
I would imagine just because of that issue alone the value was cut in half. Bummer! I can't exactly pay my bills now but I still can't go wrong for what I paid.
Are the insides real pink? Sometimes that chocolate milk paint could look pink, had a 8x12 tom that looked that way to me, maybe more of a flesh tone.

Check for yourself, he has some pretty good pics on the ad

Well I stand corrected - Rich K is saying over at drumforum that the pink is very likely original. He's a member here so maybe he'll chime in. He's also far more of a Slingerland expert than I'll ever be, so chances are good the set is all original! In that case I don't think the price is that far off considering the rarity of the finish and the 18" bass drum.
Thanks,
Bill
Really?! Wow I hope he chimes in I'm really surprised by that

In a nutshell, it's been stated that Slingerland did paint the interiors of some of their single-headed drums.
That's news to me, I learn something every day around here.
