Should I go for this?

Hi folks,

this morning I went down to Black Forest to check out the Yamaha.

Cool sound, great look - the only sad thing about it is the wrap of the 16". It´s cracked almost all over, and somebody tried to fix it with glue to stop the damage. Little pieces of it lost already. But that SOUND!

I remembered that my guitarist bought a Nash Telecaster that was brand new but looked as it had been in hard use for forty years, he called this "pre-aged". And it was f*****g expensive.

So, why not a set that is really aged? Even more when the seller says, "OK, I should have 250,- EUR for this."Jump For Joy

OK, it´s not a collectors item at all, but that´s the fact that makes me dare using it without being afraid of keeping it in a collectors condition all the time.

And it sounds so great...Excited

Hello Jürgen,

not my fav colour, but cool, that's for sure!

Could you mail me a pic of the crack/s, please. Perhaps I have an idea of how solve the major issues there.

Ralf

That is such a cool kit. Dang that wrap is sweet. I would sit tall behind that kit. You honor it. What a score! Now, go play the snot out of it. Amen, bro Jstix!

From mcjnic

...Now, go play the snot out of it...

...and so I did!

Fortunately the German soccer team won the match against England this afternoon, so it was very noisy everywhere around this town.

My girls are on vacation, also our neighbour above - and the shop under our flat is closed on sundays :D

Took the opportunity and played not only the snot out of the Yamaha, but also of the Bollero (both kits are side by side in my living-room) and out of myself as well ;)

It´s just confirmable what jonnistix wrote about thin shells: The Yamaha has a very boomy, melodically sound. In combination with that Ludwig snare that sounds really "woody" - this set is killer!

The Star Bollero has a more percussive sound. It´s very interesting to compare, and there´s an analogy when I compare with my "modern" Recording series kit and the Artstar II. It´s almost the same. Both companies seem to remain true to their basic sound over the years.

But, man, both kits sound sooo great - and they´re so low-budget drums in fact!

Another proof of the rule "less is more"! So much character. Just love it!

Thanks to all of you who were watching this and helped me through with givin´ highly appreciated advice!

This is a really great community.Bowing

Hello!

Last Saturday we played at a 50th birthday party in a very nice place. I decided to use the Yamaha there for the first time.

The other two guys in the band didn´t know about this kit until Saturday - and they were really surprised and impressed by the look and the sound!

Was also my first experience to play this kit together with a band. It was amazing! I really love that sound (in combination with that woody Ludwig snare)!

And this set is so inspiring! I´m playin´them in a totally different way than I usual do play drums. Great! (Now I can comprehend how David Garibaldi came to his fantastic style of playing - he used to play a similar sounding four-piece Rogers on the first two Tower Of Power albums back in the early 70s!)

Just wanted to let you know, thanks!
