Should I go for this?

Hi to all,

just have been googlin´ around the web for vintage sales, as my eyes were catched  by the following:

A vintage dealer who´s shop is about little more than a hundred kilometres away from my place offers two for me very interesting kits (see below). Would take just one hour and a half for me to get there.

One is a 60´s Star in psychedelic red (12, 13, 16, 22), the other one´s a 60´s Yamaha in orange haze (13, 16, 20). Both without snares, just as shown in the pics.

Both offers look as if they´re in a good collectable shape and even the original tom mounts are included on both sets.

They call 490,- Euros for each (about 600,- US-Dollars), and I thought about asking them if they would give me a "package-price" in case I´d take both.

What do you think about this offer? To me it seems as if they´re worth it.

Thanks!

Jürgen

Thanks, Mikey, for that really quick reply!

Yes, for the Star I´ve been thinkin´ the same as you just said.

How´s about the Yamaha? As you know, I´m into Japanese Vintage Drums only for a short time now, so I don´t know as much about the Yammies yet as I know about Star. And the Yamaha´s got my attention because of the 20" bass as well as for the finish.

Hi mc!

These were exact my thoughts when I first saw the pic!

I will call that shop tomorrow and see what they say about one price for both.

It´s not really far away for me and also a good friend of mine I haven´t seen for a while lives in the town where that shop is.

So I can spend a nice Saturday in Black Forest and maybe make a good deal as well;)

Jurgen...get them both if your pockets will allow. The Star is indeed a rare wrap. I have seen one other kit in that, and if I'm not mistaken, itr was only a bass and tom. Grab them both. Yammies are high Q stuff, always have been. Never were they into low end always pro stuff. As Mikey said, try to get a deal for both.

Hello Jürgen (good morningflower),

As you know I'm in Germany and therefore I look to these only with German eyes:

The STAR is pricewise too high. It has rail consolettes and not the 'Free'o'matic' double tom holder which would be the indication for a late STAR (with better shells). Please also consider that these rail consolettes allow only a very small range of adjustment of the height of the toms ...!

For that I would pay maximum EUR 300.

The Yamaha is rare, too, but I think it's not the same as with STAR. Yamaha started a little later and in my ears it doesn't have the same 'vintage sounding' name as STAR.

My price proposal: maximum EUR 250.

Especially as the respective original hardware (cymbal stands, hihat and pedal) are not included in both cases.

Just my two cents ;-)

Hello!

First of all: Thanks a lot for your replies and your advice everybody! I really appreciate this.Cool1

@Ralf: This is why I usually ask someone to attend me if I got an eye on something (maybe a car or a motorbike, just now vintage drums), who pulls me back to the ground of facts. Four eyes see more than two, and if you deal in a "fever", you´ll maybe regret it afterwardsMind Blowi.

Thank you for the price proposal you would make. It really will help me when I call the shop later on!

I will post further information on this after I spoke with the dealer, just to keep you all in the loop!
