I have been following this restoration, and MAN! I am excited for you! You are an inspiration and I have much respect for you!

It's all Ludwigdude's fault. I mentioned I saw these, read his black panther history, then I had to have them! lol

I am looking for a CS Accent snare with bowtie lugs. I plan on wrapping it with some vinyl that is a very close match to the BP wrap, just for my collection. I have heard that a BP snare is extremly rare. The cs accent has the vintage bowtie lugs. It will be a cheap way to complete this kit. My bass reso head will be here tomorrow, but we have a jam tomorrow night at the fisher jamhole, so I will finish this by saturday, except for the bass drum spur. I bought this kit jan 28th, the day before my birthday. I am now officially a Black Panther Lover!

By the way Adam I put evans genera resos on the toms. If i was giggin this kit I would put the g2's on the batter sides, but this kit will sit in my drum room when its finished. Thanks for all your info on heads.

I just finished my 2nd coat of low luster clear on my hoops. I got my Black ported Ludwig Logo head today. I plan on having it all on by saturday. As soon as I finish painting, and putting the inlays in place. I will take final pics and put a post of the whole hoop restoration process. They are looking very killer Y'all!!!

No problem on the head advice! Happy to throw my:2Cents:in and see if it can help anyone out!

Can't wait to check those BPs out when they are done. Looks like they will have plenty of good company in your drum room!

Ok I just finished my hoops. I am extremly pleased with the results!

Restoring the bass drum hoops:

I get my staple puller out and remove the 2 staples that fasten the end of the inlay down, in 2 different places. A ice pick, or awl works good also If you don’t have a staple puller.

Pull the inlay off. Notice that it is also glued down the center of the inlay.

Im going to sand the whoops almost down to bare wood, tape off the1/2" of the center of the hoop the inlay sets in, then paint them with the same vinyl dye I re-dyed the vinyl finish on the drums with. I have read about all different kinds of paint to use on the whoops and I decided mine will be the same color as the shells. The vinyl dye (comes in a spray can just like spray paint) will stick to anything, furthermore any paint sticks to bare wood. I’m going to give it 3-4 coats,

then wet sand them with 400 grit sand paper. Wipe with paper towels, and wipe with a tack rag. The wet sanding is the key to making an extremely smooth paint job. Give it a couple more coats and Voila! Perfect paint job on the hoops. I think I’ll give em a few coats of clear for the hell of it. I use the tack rag in-between all coats of paint. This inhibits particles from the paint job.
