I feel your pain, man...been there done that....I use craigslist a lot these days. Smaller target but you can't beat free.

If you can get past the many scammer emails and the fact that you sit on your stuff forever...sure craigslist is ok.....

I reached 408 transactions there with only ONE negative. (A guy form Canada who expected a NOS Ludwig hercules stand, when it was JUST mint) until a girl under the ID of Valpasworld bought a Ludwig powertom set from me. She used it for two weeks and then asked me for a return because she didn't like "the tone". When I received the set back the hoops were all generic Taiwanese ones. The New Paypal only ,no bad feedback allowed for the buyer, false positives, best match, etc, etc, etc makes virtually impossible for any honest seller of vintage drums to stay there. You risk loosing a Black Beauty or a set of Rogers Blue ripple if you deal with the wrong guy. Paypal does no investigation on any claim for the seller side. They always support the buyer. No matter what. For me, Ebay is dead, unless you're buying, but I've seen a lot of new scams for buyers too. If you guys want a closer look about the horror of Paypal, just go there and read the Paypal's discussion boards.

I guess most of this is just owning a business. No matter what you sell and who you deal with there will always be problems. It is a fact of doing business.

I can say that you do not not need to use PayPal. They do allow other merchant CC's. It would just require that you run the CC another way.

You would also need to set up a merchant account with another company. I'm wondering if more companies are already offering a non-merchant account set-up.

It is an option to explore.

Regarding selling on ebay, I've found that including insurance in the shipping amount (minimal investment), saves alot of headaches. Granted, I've only sold under ten items (maybe it can get harrowing selling many more items), but the insurance paid off for a damaged hi-hat I sold. The kid bought a used Yamaha stand, which got damaged (it was unuseable) and was reimbursed for the full replacement value. I hate insurance companies, but you can't go wrong insuring your shipments. That said, you can't do good business with an asshole, either.

...Been there, done that...The amount of paperwork they requiere for opening the Merchant account its just stupid,(besides asking for your SSN) and even if you submit everything they ask for they still keep you in the round about! Because they dont want to loose their grip in triple dipping you with fees: Listing fee,Paypal and Final value fee (which includes the shipping!!!!)Now the Rolling reserve and the 21 days holds takes all your profit besides being forced to ship with your own money. Theres no Seller protection at all. Doesnt matter if you cover your packages with triple insurance,They'll always side with the buyer!

Actually they didn't side with me, but having called them and ranted at the person on the other end they agreed to "refund" the payment to me as a "one time courtesy". I agree that they side with the buyer no matter what, and that the seller is suposed to lose out. Clearly they are so screwed up they don't know what they are doing anymore. Ebay used to be a level playing field, now......its only good if you are a buyer. The seller fees are still rediculous, the paypal fees on top of the ebay fees are rediculous.....the whole system is really a joke now. Like I said, I am done selling on ebay for the final and last time. Not worth the aggrevation to me.

Aha, I see the difference. Had you not called back the decision would have been with the buyer.... sorry, missed that. Good thing you challenged it, huh?
