What are the rarest Slingerland wraps/finishes from th 60's-70's?

I remember so many garage-band drummers in the early 70's stripping the wraps off their mismatched, orphan drums and leaving the shells bare wood, or, rewrapping orphans with fabric or contact paper. I can't help but to speculate that this crazy trend worked it's way into the Slingerland marketing department. How else do you account for the Aztec or Denim finishes?

I think I've only seen one denim-wrapped Slingerland. From mid 1970s I think.

On ebay like 5+ years ago.

What does “Denim drums at pearl prices” mean??? Pearl prices? Were pearl wraps cheaper then others?? What are they suggesting? I was born in the 90s so i have no idea what the market was like back then. I learn what i can online.

Quite simply it meant "no extra charge" for denim wrap.

Very nice Modern Solo 2R Dave. Did you purchase them new or used? Care to share some serial numbers? First three digits is fine if you don't want to post entire number (e.g. 230xxx).

Hi Slingerfan...I bought them brand new at Xmas time in 1969....went to the local music store for new sticks because our band had an important Christmas gig for the local JCs...these drums were in the window....That was Friday night...Saturday morning I traded my Ludwigs for the Slingy kit and played them for about 15 years. The're in Florida now at our other home...serial numbers will have to wait.
